Year 5 Thursday 2nd July Learning From Home

Good morning Year 5! I hope you enjoyed learning all about Islam yesterday!

TASK 1 - POLLUTION AND RIVERS

Today we finish our work on rivers. As I explained in an earlier video, this is a very practical topic in school and involves a day trip to the River Brock where we measure the flow, the cross section and the level of pollution in the river. We have to remember that the water in the water cycle, which flows down streams and rivers is also our drinking water. Ensuring this water remains clean and healthy is so important. I have attached here a PowerPoint for you to work through, you could read it and then teach a sibling or parent (when they are not too busy). At the the of the PowerPoint there is a wonderful filtering experiment which we would have completed in class. It links our science experiments last week to our geography this week. You can see how river water is filtered many many times so that it becomes safe to drink! I would love to see a photograph of you experiment! Go for it!!!

TASK 2 READING - TOM’S MIDNIGHT GARDEN

Today children we here what mum has to say in her letter to Aunt Gwen. Is Tom’s time running out? Read independently or read along with Mrs H. The chapters where shorter today so they are on the same audio. Once you have read/listened. Complete the response task

TASK 3 MATHS MOVING LONG MULTIPLICATION FROM THE GRID METHOD TO THE SHORT METHOD.

Watch the film and pause it to following the strategy carefully!

Friday tomorrow and we will be completing a science lesson- I couldn’t fit in last week! We will continue with the novel and some more maths! Next week Mrs Gregan will take over and then I will be back for the last week - I’ll save the very end of the book until then!!!! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
