Welcome back everyone! I hope you have all had a lovely break- wasn’t the sunshine fabulous! School is open for the key worker children today but sadly not for us in Year 5! We will continue to learning from home! This week we are studying the Titanic and practicing our English skills through this historic tragedy. Below is an overview of this weeks learning! We consolidate our fraction work (moving onto multiplying) and we complete too STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) challenges! Have fun!
Task 1 MATHS
Let’s revisit the fraction work we have been doing as we complete- “Fraction recap and mix -up”
Task 2- English
Let’s start by reading all about RMS Titanic. Once you have read the factual account complete the comprehension questions. Please note that it make Mrs Hotchkiss sad when you hand in work without capital letters and correct punctuation- that isn’t really work more like notes! Let’s do a cracking job! Please send a photo or your English book!
Task 3 - Science STEM challenge!
Time to build a boat! You will need the following:
A bucket/dishbowl/sink with water, a piece of alumium foil the video shows 15cm square but you can have a 20cm square. You will also need an item you can load into the boat items that are all the same size, for example lego pieces, raisins pennies any thing that is you have a lot of and are the same. The challenge is to hold as many items as possible. When your boat sinks the first time. STOP-REFLECT how could you improve your design? Send pictures of your designs (i’ll pop them on Friday’s blog)- good luck engineers! Click on the image to play the film!
