Welcome to Year 6 - Day 5 of Induction Week

Good morning Year 5 - welcome to Friday’s learning! This is our final day of induction into Year 6, you are all more than ready to hit the ground running in September and I excited to get going. Today you have some IXL maths to complete and a piece of writing to complete. I love teaching writing and seeing what standard my class can write…show me exactly what you can do today. I have given you some hints as to the type of things I would like to see. Your writing will take time and patience. Please devote time to it today - this is your focus!

I have written the blog on the main page today so it will appear later on with all of the answers to the questions that you asked.

Keep your learning photos coming through.

Have a wonderful day of learning!

Maths - Coordinates Year 6 Consolidation

Today it is time to consolidate the learning that we have done so far this week. IXL is a really important part of Year and it helps us to refine our knowledge.

Can you complete YEAR 5 IXL J1, J2 and J4.

English - Writing your autobiography

Today you will be producing a piece of writing that is your autobiography…your story of your life. As this is a Year 6 piece of writing, I am expecting to see:

  • Consistent punctuation throughout your writing.

  • Exciting sentence openers that really extend your standard of writing.

  • Relative clauses (I know that you have been working on those this year).

  • Detail in your writing - always challenge yourself to add more.

Remember that there will be 5 paragraphs to your writing as your autobiography needs to be in chronological order:

  • The Very Beginning - Your earliest memories and family

  • Values - What are your values? What is important to you? Where did you learn your values?

  • Education - What has your education been like?

  • Hobbies and Interests - What are your interests? What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

  • Your life now - How are you feeling about Year 6? What are you excited about? What are your targets for next year?

There is still an example of an autobiography below that you can refer to so that you can compare your standard of writing.

Geography - South America and the Rainforest - finish this if it needs completing.

Our first geography topic in Year 6 will be South America. I know you have looked at North America this year so this will be a nice comparison for you to make. We do not look at rainforests specifically as part of the unit of work but it is really important to know the basics about them. Can you produce a poster about what a rainforest is and in particular, The Amazon Rainforest.

Make your work eye - catching and link it to the brief.

You can choose how you make your poster: computer, in your book or on a piece of paper, the choice is yours. Keep hold of this work or email it across to me so that I can use it in class.

What do you need to be ready for Year 6?

How are you going to ensure you are ready for September, what do you need to have ready? What kind of attitude will you need? I have set you a Year 6 checklist task in Purple Mash for to make your list.

An example might be:

I need a resilient attitude. I know that Year 6 will be full of challenges that I need to overcome.

I need to be brave. I can only achieve great things if I am willing to give them a go.

I need to be organised and have all of my equipment ready for September.

Year 5 and 6 common exception words

Something that you can continue to practise and look at whilst at home is the Year 5 and 6 spelling list. Use the sheet that I have attached here to continually familiarise yourself with them and become proficient in them. There are some really tricky words in this list. Use your time wisely and master them. I would like to see you use them in your writing come September.
