Week two is over in a blink of an eye. A fabulous week of learning, laughter and looking after each other.
In Art…
All the classes have started their new Art topic this week, Drawing. Every artist has been given their very own art pencil to keep in their pencil cases, to help keep things safe and hygienic. We spoke about how these pencils were soft lead pencils and should only be used in Art, as they are no good for writing and maths, too smudgy and will wear out quickly. We are being very careful with Art equipment, keeping materials to just one year group and then quarantining that for either 48/72 hours, before using with a new year group.
I have added photos this week, if your child is not featured, it is because you either don’t give permission or you haven’t sent the response to your child’s class teacher yet, until these have been received I am unable to show them.
Year one learned about different art pencils and explored making marks with their class HB pencil and two art pencils, 2B and 6B. Everyone could feel the difference and found the 6B very soft and smudgy. We then drew different lines, how would we draw wiggly, straight, soft, hard etc. The children also got their new special art books with their names written in gold.
Year two recapped over different types of art pencils then went on to draw a picture by listening to instruction, we had to decide what colour was needed and where on the page it should be drawn. We had a swirly sun, jagged grass and fluffy clouds, as this went on we ended up with a full picture of a house and apple tree garden, full of interesting items.
Year three looked at the artist Vincent Van Gogh and his painting ‘Starry Night’. We looked at the strong liner aspect of his art. We copied a few and then made our own markings. These will be featured in coming weeks work.
Year four responded to a story of a little maggot called Jeffrey, as I read the magical adventure, the children created their own story map of what had happened. This is practice for our own story adventure in two weeks time. The children are so excited to be creating their own.
Year five started a thee week mini topic about an artist called Hundertwasser whose abstract art never had a straight line in it, ask your child why? We had a go at drawing aspects of his work in preparation for creating our own version next week, we will then add an acetate layer the following week. The children were amazed to discover his architecture work and his no straight line transferred to his buildings also, why not google him and see for yourself his wacky yet remarkable buildings.
Year six learned about tone this week as we practiced light, mid and dark tones, we then transferred this knowledge to colour and found we can chose light, mid and dark colours to the same effect. Using a photo of ourselves we created ‘Pop Art’ versions of ourselves in rich oil pastels. These will be on display in the Create room.
Have a wonderful weekend, I’ll be seeing my youngest son back to university this weekend so an emotional one for the Curtis family.
God bless
