‘See the light in each other and be the light for each other.’

This past week is one, I know I will never forget. Seeing the children’s little faces light up with smiles, when they saw their friends and teachers, filled me with hope for the future. Having the whole class back together has been truly wonderful and we have had the loveliest week making up for lost time. We had the Grand Opening of our Outdoor Classroom on Monday. The sun finally shone on us after lunch and we were able to cut the ribbon and commemorate a new chapter of all being together again.

The learning the children have done this week has blown me away. I knew from the work they were producing whilst learning remotely, that amazing learning was still taking place… but they have surpassed my high expectations in bucket loads. There is no doubt that the children have been inspired and challenged, whilst learning remotely…your outstanding efforts have been so worth it. Thank you!

I have spent time with each child this week and have looked at their reading and sound knowledge with them. I have identified children who would benefit from extra ‘sound practise’. If your child has come home with a set of speed sounds/already has some, is it so important that they are practising these sounds everyday (before reading their book). I have written the sounds I would like your child to really practise on a label. If they practise speed sounds in school and at home everyday…they’ll be reading fluently in no time! Thank you for your help with this!

This week’s home learning can be found on the Weekly Home Learning page (not remote learning).

What have we been learning this week?

This week we have been growing in love and compassion. We have talked about how we can show our compassion by keeping each other safe from germs and listening with empathy to others’ cares and worries. We talked about how the Good Samaritan showed love and reflected on how we can do this in our own lives.

In English, we discovered that Peter Rabbit had visited our outdoor classroom and hid special eggs with ‘wow words’, for us to use in our writing. We have been getting to know Peter Rabbit and have used our enquiry skills to find clues about him in jigsaws.

In Maths we have been reviewing previous learning and have been practising our tens and ones. The children had lots of fun counting in socks and we even used socks to practise! Can you challenge your child to count their own socks in 2s?

Hip-Hip-Hooray!

Certificates

Curious Clara Clownfish: For asking curious questions in History. Naomi, you really impressed me with your inquisitive ideas about the Apollo II Moon Landing. You were able to convince me that Neil Armstrong really did walk on the moon, through your choice of sources and evidence. Well done Naomi - I cannot wait to teach you more about Neil Armstrong’s achievement!

Focused Cooper Crab: For being a focused learner all of the time. Grace, you are a champion at managing your distractions. You never let anything get in the way of you growing your brain. I have been so impressed with your creative Peter Rabbit sentences and how you have supported your learning partner too! Well done Grace!

Notices

  • PE DAYS: Tuesday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor).

  • Children must bring a labelled water bottle to school with them everyday. The bottle should be filled up with water ready for the day ahead.

  • A kind reminder that children should not be bringing in anything unnecessary from home. I love when children are proud of something they have made and want to share it with their teachers, however we must follow the strict school guidance to keep us all safe. Similarly, please can we check that the children do not have keyrings on their bags. I’m sorry to sound so miserable, but the children can’t resist playing with a keyring when they see it. Let’s encourage the children to keep their hands to themselves and stop the spread of germs.

God bless and have a wonderful sunny weekend,

Miss Lane, Mrs Kaur, Mrs Malley, Mrs Carter and Miss Liddell
