Good morning Year 5!
Good morning Year 5 and welcome to a new week of learning! This week we continue with long multiplication and we revisit our work on newspaper reports! Crimes are often reported in papers and we meet more criminals in history as we explored smugglers. We will be watching a film called Treasure Island it is based on a very famous book written in 1883 by Robert Louis Stevenson. The main character is Jack Hawkins and young boy who lives in an old inn by the sea were smugglers come to drink and stay! It is a coming of age story as Jack has to grow up very quickly!
WEEKLY OVERVIEW
I have attached the new weekly overview for the week so you can see how the learning will unfold! I hope this is useful and helps you to plan your time.
Year 5 Morning Board
MATHS WARM-UP - TT ROCKSTARS
Long multiplication requires excellent table knowledge! Practice for 10 minutes on your TT Rockstars - how close are you to being a Rock Legend?
LESSON 1 MATHS - LONG MULTIPLICATION USING THE EXPANDED METHOD
Today we continue with our expanded method - a bit trickier as we move into the thousands! Make sure you follow the model using your squares very carefully! NOTE: I spotted an error on my fluency page after I had filmed the lesson - it should say multiples of 2 on the venn diagram not factors of 2 - sooo sorry - didn’t want to confuse you!!
LESSON 2 - ENGLISH GRAMMAR SIMILES AND METAPHORS
Today we explore these figurative language features! Playing with words in this rich way allows us to paint pictures for the reader!
LESSON 3 - ART
Time to chill a little as we get lost in this weeks art task set by our very own creative Mrs Curtis! Last week we personalized our initials in all sorts of creative ways. Click below to find out todays challenge!
LESSON 4 MUSIC
DURATION LESSON 3: To explore on and off beats in different musical styles
This lesson will consolidate some of the learning from lesson 2, as well as exploring how off beats can be found in different musical styles.
Finally - quiet time
Today the children in class came together for worship. This week I’m going to place a link to a prayerful film sharing the Beatitudes. You may want to watch this somewhere quiet. This is Jesus asking us to see the need in others and to respond.
