Art News… Week 3
Christmas is creeping up on us, as excited children are telling me about putting up the tree and decorating their homes in preparation. We also are starting to get ready and all the children are contributing to a special display in the school entrance to celebrate this special time. I will post a photo, once all is in place.
In Art…
Reception had to think carefully as to the real colours of certian items to make sure they looked right, no green carrots or blue suns. We chatted about our families as we coloured, sharing stories and laughter.
Year one looked at hot and cold colours, could we work out what was what? After some good conversations we cut out many coloured shapes and put them into lines of hot or cold.
Year two made their Christmas cards this week, they are made in the Aboriginal style to tie in with our art topic. These has gone away and will come home later in the term.
Year three looked at the opticial illusion art, we loved seeing art that made our eyes and brains feel the art was moving or coming our of the picture. Using black and orange paper we had a go at creating some of our own.
Year four had a master class in watercolours, learning that water was key to make these colours bold or soft. We looked at the artist Georgia O’Keefe and her stunning flower paintings. When we had gained confidence we had a go at painting a poppy in her style.
Year five added the second layer to their Reduction Block Prints by carving in all the lines we had drawn in red. We painted over the whole foam block and carefully printed this on top of the yellow layer from last week. The gasps and smiles from happy printers was a joy to watch. The final layer will be added next week, the blue third.
Year six designed their Christmas card, which will be made from cross stitch, as it ties in with their textile topic. We drew our designs then had a recap of the stiches on a sampler piece of Binka.
Art Club has great fun painting an eye mask with primary colours, being chalenged to mix their own secondary colours and painting the masks anyway the wished.
Have a wonderful weekend, Stay safe.
God bless
