Art News… Week 3
Another full week, lots going on with the added bonus of hearing year six belt out their songs from practice in the hall for their end of year play, The Wizard of OZ. They sound amazing already!
In Art…
Year one moved onto their new art topic, Textiles. We did some simple sewing/weaving, using a paper plat that I had punched holes around the edge and thread. We learned to push and pull the thread through the holes to create lovely stitches around the edge and across the plate. These will be used in our hanging which we will be constructing over the next few weeks.
Year two looked at the optical art of Bridget Riley in the first of two lessons. We discussed how the lines and patterns played tricks on our eyes and made us think the lines were moving. We used graphite sticks and rulers to create some of our own. Next week we will have a go using black paper, collage style.
Year three enjoyed their second clay session in their 3D topic as we created a tile with a 3D add on. Rolling, shaping and cutting a tile using a template we then chose what we wanted as our 3D image. I demonstrated a spider, so we had many spider tiles. These look amazing and have already gone home to air dry.
Year four took a look at the artist Francis Bacon and his distorted and disturbing self portraits. We discussed how it made us feel and why we thought he made them this way. After a fabulous discussion we set to with two photos of ourselves and cut them up and rearranged them to change our images. These looked fabulous if not a little scary.
Year five learned about layering and detail in collage as we were challenged to create fruit and vegetable segments. Our scissor skills were put the test as we had to cut incredibly small sections for a realistic take on the fruits. Great job year five.
Year six had their final session on Batik as we looked at the fabric without the wax (I have ironed the wax our of the fabric to leave the white undyed material). We then trimmed the fabric down, mounted onto card and stuffed with wadding and framed to give us a 3D finish. These will be year sixes final display at Our Lady’s.
More art has been added to the Home Gallery including a year five young man who went to see the David Nash exhibition at Grisesdale Forest, lots of wood sculptures and he would recommend visiting for a good day out. So why not take a sneak peak and visit the Home Gallery.
Have a lovely weekend, stay safe.
God Bless
