What a fantastic week we have had at Our Lady’s, our year six children found out their roles of responsibility and were happy for each other and themselves, we had a small key stage assembly that was so lovely to be together again and learning is back in full force.
In Art…
Reception welcomed me into their classroom on Tuesday and were very happy to chat and tell me all about themselves while we made a colourful piece of class art. Do go onto the Reception art page and have a look at the lesson photos.
Year one explored the difference between a regular HB writing pencil they used in Maths and English and the softer, smudgy 6B pencils we used in Art. We also drew how we though things should look, such as wiggly, curly and straight.
Year two responded to different words and instruction in their Drawing lesson. How could we draw light or dark? How could we draw jagged or soft? We then responded with correct colours to draw a picture, only drawing what was said eg: spikey grass at the bottom of the page and a swirly sun at the top. We made some beautiful art.
Year three looked at the Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh and all his markings to give the illusion of movement. We studied the painting ‘Starry Night’ and drew some of his featues for ourselves.
Year four listened to the charming tale of a maggot called Jeffery and his crazy adventure inside a magical pumkin. We the drew all the parts of his adventure right up to when he transformed into a fly and flew off.
Year five looked at the paintings and buildings of Austrian artist and architect Hundertwasser. He hated straight lines and never used them in his paintings or buildings. We drew some aspects of his work before createing our own inspired vesion. Next week we will fill this with bold colours in oil pastels and the week after add an acetate layer and add detail in marker pen.
Year six studied tone, light, mid and dark tones, firstly using an art pencil then choosing colours in this range in oil pastels. We took a photo of ourselves and devided it into light, mid and dark tones and created stunning pop art inspired self portraits.
Art Clubs had lots of fun making pom pom poppers and couldn’t wait to take them home to play with. These children have four more tuesday sessions before their clubs end. Do go onto the Art Club, Home Gallery page to see the fun.
Home gallery photos have started to come in with a young artist in year three creating a tube man like the ones she has seen in the Create room. Do go and have a look. If you would like to share your home creativity, no matter what it is, please send me a photo or two to r.curtis@ourladystarofthesea.sch.lancs.uk and I would to see them and add them to the gallery.
I have added photos to the website art pages this week, but there are still a few children without permission, so please send these forms back so you can see your children enjoying their art sessions.
Have a lovely weekend, hopefully a little more September sun wil warm us.
God bless
Mrs Curtis
