Art News… Week 2
It feels as if the Christmas break was months ago as we all have slipped back into our learning and activities, it’s like we’ve never been away!
The weather is bright and beautiful but so bitterly cold. With the doors and windows open in line with guidence, it is chilly in the Create room. Please bring an extra jumper or hoody to wear over your uniform on Art days as coats are too bulky and hinder movement.
In Art…
Reception had super fun using ink and a straws to blow the colours around the page to mix the colours and create new ones. Some of us found the blowing a little tricky but also great fun.
Year one learned about the British artist Grayson Perry and his childhood teddy bear called Alan Measles. This bear has been the inspiration of many art pieces for Grayson and this week, an inspiration for us too. We creates our own version from clay and items found in our school grounds, we named them after a friend and an illness just like Alan Measles.
Year two had great fun in their new Textiles topic when they dip dyed fabric squares with fabric dye. Folding the fabric different ways and dipping in the dyes to give us different patterns and designs. These will be used for future art sessions.
Year three started their printmaking topic by responding to a story of an exciting coach trip. Using black paint and different printing objects, could we create a story board and retell the adventure with just prints?
Year four were super resilient as we started to learn to sew. We threaded a needle, tied a knot and had a go at a simple running stitch. This was very hard and happy faces left the Create room clutching their sewn fabric squares to proudly take home. I have asked the children if they can practise these three things at home, they will get better and more confident.
Year five completed their Chris Ofili inspired self portraits by adding an acetate layer and adding an acrylic over paint. These look amazing and will go on display in the Create room.
Year six used clay to create a sculpure of either a reclining figure or Mother and child in the style of artist Henry Moore. Children need to research a Rainforest animal and print off a headshot ready for art next week. These can be printed at school, a box is waiting in the create room. please add your name to the back.
Art club, group three, had their first session this week and made some fun pom pom poppers.
India in Year five brought in her latest Blue Peter badges, not one but two badges. She is now proudly on the Blur Peter wall of fame in the Create room. If you have a Blue Peter badge and you’d like to be on the wall for all to see, just bring your badges in to me, tell me what you did to gain them and I’ll take a photo for the wall.
Have a restful weekend, stay warm and safe.
God Bless
Mrs Curtis
