And so, we approach Holy Week in school. As we have continued to learn in class, the whole school has been busy putting together their depictions of the passion. The hall has been filled with song, emotion and wonderful drama. This morning, we had the pleasure of watching the Year 2 rehearsal of Palm Sunday. It was such a beautiful start to our school Holy Week.
Next Thursday, we will be performing our interpretation of the resurrection. I am excited for you to see it and for you to share it with us. The children need to bring into school on Monday a pair of black leggings/trousers/joggers for the assembly. Thank you. Throughout next week, we will be discussing and writing about these events in our RE lessons. I would love to show the children clips from the film ‘Jesus of Nazareth’, as this is a fantastic resource to fully comprehend the feelings and emotions involved which will impact their writing. This film is a PG however, We will start next Monday, so if you have any objections with this then please do get in touch. If I do not hear from you, I will assume you have given consent. Many thanks.
What have we been learning this week?
Learning has been full on and fast paced this week as we continue our journey towards the end of key stage assessments. I am so impressed by the attitude of the children and their desire to make progress. This week has not gone as planned, so mocks have not all took place, however the children have been extremely patient and flexible and know these will take place next week, all being well.
English - The children have been busy analysing and collecting vocabulary from discussion texts and then writing their discussion texts on whether Frair Lawrence WAS responsbile for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. We have also revised modal verbs and practising our conditional sentences- who knew that there was so many different types of verbs.
Maths - We have enjoyed maths this week learning how to find percentages of amounts.
RE - What questions do we have about our faith? What are the events of Good Friday? How did this impact on us and what did the disciples feel? We have explored these questions this week, as well as finding evidence from the bible to prove that Jesus was truly God and truly human.
You will see from the homework this week that we are really gearing up to the final 4 weeks of teaching. Please continue to keep asking questions and I will help you wherever I can. We have sent a number of practice papers home to have a go at over the holidays, all of these will be due back the first day back after the Easter holidays. Support your child the best way you see fit, these will not be assessed by me, so whatever level input you feel is necessary then please feel free. If you click on the button below, it will take you to the section on the Year 6 web page ‘How to Help Your Child.’ I have updated the page with lots of useful sites for the children to access. If you see there is an area that children need more practice, then these sites should help, but remember one of the most crucial ways is through books. So please make sure you set aside time of Easter to read together.
On Thursday we had some lovely visitors in the Year 6 classroom… our Reception buddies came to deliver us a thank you card. We then got to go out to play and have lunch with them, what a lovely time we all had!
We have been working hard at our sewing in class! There has been such resilience, particularly when trying to get that thread through the needle! We are thrilled with the outcome of their beautiful cushions, each one so unique and sewn with love…
EGG DECORATING COMPETITON - Wednesday 5th April. For £1 entry fee, the children need to bring in a boiled, decorated egg for the competition. Let your imagination go wild. Could the egg be a character in a scene? Or have a specific pattern? Think creatively. The student council will be judging the winners from their paired class. There may even be a large chocolatey prize for the winners.
Jackie, and her bunnies, will be preparing a lovely Easter Lunch for the whole school community to enjoy on Wednesday 5th April. If your child usually has a school dinner on a Wednesday, they will automatically receive the Easter Lunch.
If your child does not have a dinner and would like one, please ensure you order a lunch by clicking the link on the Easter Lunch page here. Each dinner is £2.40. Mrs Hodges will update Parent Pay once the orders are in.
Leading Learners
Well done to Evie and Asher this week.
Evie, if we could bottle up your enthusiasm we would! Your smile and your enthusiasm for learning is contagious! There is no task too big or too small that you will not throw yourself in to, giving 110% and always with a smile! Your learning and presentation is beautiful, as you take such pride in your work- thank you Evie!
Asher, you amaze us… EVERYTHING you do, you do with such resilience and sheer determination. Your growth mindset is inspiring. You believe you can do something, you have confidence in yourself and you work your socks off until you achieve it. Even if you find something difficult at first, this does not deter you, you keep going until you have mastered it, which was evident in your sewing this week! It is never easy learning a new skill, but you did it!
Grateful and Generous butterflies
This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that are grateful for their own gifts, the gifts of others and the blessings of each day. We will also be spotting children who are generous, who use their gifts to help others. These children are the role models of the school. This week we thank Isabella for always being generous with his own gifts to help others.
Helpers in the morning
This week we have the following children helping to take the younger children to their class:
