Year 3 Weekly Blog 26.9.24 ‘The future belongs to the curious.’

Our class worship this week was led by Henry, Scarlet and Blythe, they chose some of our favourite hymns to share as a class and read the story of the sad day when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit.

On Friday I was so proud of how the children walked and behaved in church. They were reverent and respectful just as I’d asked them to be. After church, Bishop Paul came to school and visited each classroom, he left Year 3 speechless after we sang and signed Hail Mary, it was just beautiful.

We have started to make some stunning stained glass window artwork depicting Our Lady - they’re not quite finshed yet, we will spend a little time next week working on them ready to display in our classroom.

Our maths lessons have focused on adding and subtracting to and from 10s numbers. We’re getting really good at using strategies we know to help us add quickly and effectively. We have continued our learning of time with Miss Bassett.

We’re continuing to enjoy reading Paddington in our English lessons. This week we have been looking at the features of letters and thinking about what we would include in a letter to Aunt Lucy.We have also identified sentences with main and subordinate clauses in the text and had a go at writing our own.

In Kidsafe we talked about how we can keep our bodies safe and how our private places are special. The children know that they are the boss of their own body and are eager to share the Golden Rules for children with you. The session letter can be found below.

On Thursday, we had a lovely time at the library, choosing new books that capture our imaginations. All children borrowed a book, they should be returned to the library by the 16th October. The children walked there beautifully and were such role models for our school. Thank you so much for those who volunteered to join us, your time is precious and we appreciate it!

Certificates

This half term’s virtues are attentive and Discerning.

Our Virtue Star this week have been awarded to: Jude Clayton

Xander - For being a resilient learner. You have taken Year 3 in your stride and we have noticed that even when you’re finding learning a little bit tricky, you use strategies just like Sadie Spider, to break your tasks down into manageable chunks to get to your goal. You should be proud of yourself Xander!

Ruth - You have been a true Bobby Bee this week. You put so much enthusiasm and effort into your work. You worked co-operatively with your learning partner and shared what you had learned knowledgably and with a confident smile. We can’t wait to see the brilliant work you do next week. Well done Ruth!
