Year 2 Friday Blog December 13th "Let Jesus Shine"

What can I say - our Nativity has been one big act of love for the school community and for the little baby Jesus. I would like to thank the children for working so hard together and for giving it everything they had - you smashed it! I would also like to also thank the wonder staff - from tech to costumes; from gentle coaxing to prop making - you are all so beautiful! We went back to class afterwards and we wrote prayers of thanks and reflected on all the things we do in Advent. All these traditions make this festive season so special. Once we had recorded our Advent we learnt about Las Posados - an 8 night Mexican Advent tradition. At the end of the lesson the children took home a Mexican lantern to light the way at home. On Thursday afternoon our class partners (Year 4) came to visit, they also took us on a journey around school. Each class has made a prayer station within the school and one in the chapel. We walked pray fully with our partners to spend some time in reflection at each station - it was lovely! Nativity picture below

MAGIC MOMENTS

The play was clearly our highlight this week! Alongside the play we have explored the birth of John the Baptist, Advent traditions in Mexico and made a Holy Spirit to hang on our trees at home. We’ve continued with our tricky maths - bridging and Miss Lavelle completed some super 3-d shape work. In DT we made chairs for our naughty elves and in computing we completed our spreadsheet work. It was lovely to see so many children at the film night then on Friday cake after cake arrived for the Christmas bake off! What a busy week!

GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION

The children loved learning about Advent traditions in another country. Why not explore this further - what do Catholics do in other countries?

What do they do in the Middle East

What do they do in the Philippines?

Does your family have any special traditions handed down

LET’S CELEBRATE

We have no assembly this week and so no parents to come and visit to celebrate! However we have still awarded certificates. It may not surprise you to learn that every child in class has received a certificate for the wonderful play - what teamwork!
