A fast paced but enjoyable week in Year 5 as the first week of advent comes to a close. It has been very festive focused this week with KS2 taking their first trip to church to practice for our Christmas concert. A lot of patience was required with setting up everything but the children showed this in various stages of the morning. Our nativities in school have also started with our youngest children in nursery and reception retelling the wonderful story of the birth of Christ. Next week, it is over to KS1 before we finish our nativity story in song and scripture at church.
To bring in the second week of Advent, our second worship team of the month brought us all together for a session of reflection, calmness and prayer. Thank you so much to those children for their preparation and leadership throughout this.
In Maths, we are coming to the end of our money topic with us analysing and breaking apart some tricky wordy problems to calculate both change and the total money left over. We have also picked up our angles topic by using our foundation knowledge to label types of angles and using our reasoning to estimate the sizes of angles. Our final task was to measure our angles using a protractor- which the children have gained a really good understanding of using.
In Geography, we have finished our exciting topic of countries, cities, climates and biomes of the world. The children have enjoyed using their atlas’ to find places in the world (espeically in globle and our alphabet game). To finish off, we have delved into the human and physical features of the world on specific continents such as population, languages and

Geography: We broke our record on globle with 8 being our best score as a class. Have a go with your family members and see if you can beat this- tell me the mystery country too!

Virtue Star of the Week: Our virtue star this week goes to William. You are someone who just lives in all of our virtues William. Such a gentle and kind lad who treats everyone just how he would like to be treated. Your loving nature is what makes you such a valuable classmate to everyone else and especially to your closest friends.
Louis for being a focused and enthusiastic learner: You have really enjoyed our geography unit this half term Louis. We have had lots of fun sharing our knowledge of the world’s countries, cities and flags. You have got struck straight into all of our inquisitive questions and our exciting research. Keep expanding that geographical knowledge.
Rose for being a focused and reflective learner: You really are the ideal learning partner Rose. Your patience is on another level and your closest friends really do appreciate this. Even when your learning partners are feeling distressed, your calming presence just instantly calms them down. We can’t thank you enough for this!

Coats: Now the weather is starting to drop and we edge closer towards winter, can all children have a coat with them to make sure they are protected when out at break times.
Travelling Nativity: Please enjoy the wonderful story of the nativity with your child when you receive this. This needs to be brought back into school the following day to allow another child to share this joy. You can take a picture of your child with the nativity and send me this via email.
