Magic moments
RE
This week in RE we have been retelling the story of creation. We acted out the story of creation in small groups and have made a video for you all to watch below!
We then learnt about Pope Francis and the Laudato Si. We watched a video about what has happened to our common world and came up with some ideas on how we can save it. The children created a poster of how we can look after our world using their many ideas, such as doing beach cleans, growing our own vegetables and riding a bike to work.
English
This week Evil Pea broke into our classroom! The children couldn’t believe it!! He came in whilst we were outside and tipped over all of our fruit and vegetables, he wrapped some in masking tape, he squished some tomatoes and he drew on their faces! The children each made a WANTED poster and stuck these up around school to warn the other classes that he has escaped! We got some news off Nursery that they had seen him too, so we worked together to find Evil Pea. The children captured him in Nursery and sent him to the freezer! We hope he doesn’t escape again…
We read some more of our book and learnt more of what Evil Pea had been up to in the supermarket, we then thought about how the vegetables must have felt, we thought of some fantastic adjectives together to describe these feelings and some children got into character to step up to the hot seat.
Maths
In maths this week we have been counting objects, singing number songs and creating patterns. The children were fantastic at this all week and I look forward to seeing the repeating patterns they have created for their homework.
History
In History we have been learning all about the Royal Family and their Family Tree. We had a look at how they are all connected and who is next in line for the throne.
Phonics
We have had a great start in Phonics and all the children are working brilliantly together. They especially love at the end of the session when we all come together to play a phonics game on the board - this is something you could also play at home. It is PhonicsPlay and the games are all free.
We have also had a new addition to our outdoor area this week - the mud kitchen! The children have loved playing with it, but have decided together that the mud is too messy and they would rather it be a water kitchen! If you have any old pots or pans lying around, feel free to donate these as the children are loving making some potions.
Going deeper.
For our HRSE session this week we have been looking at online bullying, we have discussed that sometimes the internet is a brilliant thing to have, but sometimes the internet can also be dangerous. Lots of children said that they have spoken to people on games and we agreed that sometimes this can be dangerous as we need to make sure we aren’t speaking to any strangers. If something comes on our games or the internet the children know that they should tell one of their trusted adults.
My Happy Mind - This week we began the section of “Meet your brain”, we looked again at the HAP team and how our brain helps us to know and control our feelings. We have also selected our My Happy Mind Hero for this week and this is Arya! Arya made some great contributions to the session and has been in charge of our happy minds all week. A new Happy Mind Hero will be chosen every Monday.
A conversation starter - what things could you do as a family to care for our common home?
Lets celebrate!
Well done to our certificate winners this week, we have had an Enthusiastic Bobby Bee and a Creative Kiki Chameleon! Well done to Hector and Cora, keep it up!
Our Virtue Star this week goes to…. Izabelle! Well done for being such a kind friend this week, we are very proud of you. This weekend you get to take home Icicles for an adventure, we can’t wait to hear all about it.
Our lunchtime winners this week are Arya and Elijah. Our role model was Arya and Elijah had excellent manners. Well done you two!
Leadership assembly. This exciting and annual event celebrates all the leaders in school. This year Mrs Gregan reminded us all that we are all leaders. We can all be STARS - shining and helping others. You will have noticed that we all came home with a special badge to show which house family we belong to! During the assembly our new Class Counsellors were announced. Thank you to all the children who took part and put themselves forward - you are all brave Timmy tortoises! Our class voted and the children with the most votes are… Elijah and Rose! We look forward to the work you will do in our school council.
Finally, a big happy birthday to Sophia! We loved celebrating with you in class on Thursday and hope you celebrate again this weekend!
Important information and reminders.
Thank you to all that joined us at the induction evening, it was lovely to meet you all and have some one on one conversations about your children. If you weren’t able to make it, I will attach the PowerPoint below so you are able to read it and have all the information that you need. Following on from that, I asked for some Charity suggestions and received a couple, if you think of any that are relevant to your family please let us know so we can have a class discussion about which one we will choose.
The children have agreed that they would like to start doing a “weekend news” session to tell each other about their weekend. If you have any lovely pictures that you would like to share with the class please send these over to my email.
