We began this week with Mrs Gregan and the whole school to celebrate Pope Francis. It was a time to come together to reflect on a Holy life lived with love. This remembrance continued in class as Miss Woodend led us in prayerful reflection. Each child took away from the class worship a little Pope Francis card - on it his reassuring words. The children were asked to take it home and place it somewhere special. It is there to remind them of his wonderful example. In class, we began our new RE topic “To the ends of the Earth” during which we study the risen Christ. We learnt that he called his apostles to be witnesses to his resurrection. Miss Bassett joined us, as usual on Wednesday and we studied the Statue of Our Lady of Lourdes. This statue is on a special journey around the Catholic schools in our diocese. The children listened to the story of Lourdes and then responded with beautiful artwork.
GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION
The life of Pope Francis. Take the opportunity to talk read and listen to the things he did in his long life - a life full of service. He was the first Jesuit Pope. We follow the Jesuit virtues so we have a special bond with Francis in this respect. If you wish to write a pray to go next to him on our class altar we would love that.
MAGICAL MOMENTS OF LEARNING
We have loved learning all about William Shakespeare’s play The Tempest. We have been witches (Sycorax), strange creatures (Caliban) and magical sprits- Ariel. We know the beginning of the story and we have re-enacted the shipwreck! Below are pictures of us causing havoc, as Ariel, on a boat we drew outside the classroom! In science we thought and talked like scientists as we made observations and answered questions with suggestions based on our prior knowledge. We are cracking on with our timetables in maths - I’ve been very impressed with our ability to solve word problems! Spelling got tricky as we had to decide which spelling rule to apply. Finally, on Friday we started our final “My Happy Mind” topic “ENGAGE” - what is engagement and how do we know when we are engaging. We discovered that engaging fully - makes us happy.
LET’S CELEBRATE
Our new virtues are Curious and Active. Our first star this half term is Arthur. He has been a very active learner really wanting to do his best- really engaging!
Our Learning Certificate goes to Eliana. Eliana has been very thorough with all her work. She is a real Kuba Crab. We love the way she takes her time and deliberately thinks hard about the work - this leads to deeper thinking! Well done!
