I can hardly believe we are so close to the end of the Autumn Term. This week, we have been very busy filming our Nativity and immersing ourselves in the Christmas Story and the magic of Advent.
The children had a wonderful day today (Friday), raising money for Brian House. It was lovely to see them all in their Christmas clothes. Thank you so much for your donations and support.
What have we been learning this week?
In Maths the children have been practising their subtraction. They have learned how to use the subtraction symbol and have been practising writing fact families of 8. Fact families consist of 4 addition facts and 4 subtraction facts. The children will be practising this for home learning, on Weekly Home Learning page, I have explained fact families in more detail.
In English the children have been writing their innovated story. The children’s focus and love of writing is such a joy to behold.
In RE the chlidren have retold the Christmas story in their own words. Watching them bring the magic of Christmas to life in their Nativity, has been bundles of fun. I can’t wait to share this with you next week.
Hip-Hip-Hooray!
Certificates
Brave Tommy Turtle: For ‘having a go’ at everything and not being scared to make a mistake. Nathan, I was so proud of you when you didn’t give up on the tricky maths problem and kept trying until you worked it out. You understand that learning from our mistakes makes our brains even stronger! Hip-Hip Hooray Nathan!
Resilient Sadie Spider: For being a determined learner. Joseph, you have been such a resilient learner this week! I was so proud of you when you explained why ‘are’ was a tricky red word and taught us all how to spell it. When you are resilient you brain grows even bigger! Well done Joseph!

Christmas Party Day and Christmas Dinner Day are next Thursday. Children should come to school dressed in their party clothes, ready to enjoy party games dance the day away. Please can you ensure your child wears suitable clothes and shoes for the weather; we will still be going outside for play. They can also bring one treat and an extra drink to watch a Christmas film with in the afternoon. For example, a chocolate bar and a carton of orange juice. No fizzy drinks please!
On Friday 17th December, the winning house will be invited to wear their house colours. Look out for a text of who this will be, although I have no doubt the children will tell you! School finishes for Christmas at 2pm and 2.10pm and reopens on Tuesday 4th January.
God Bless and have a wonderful weekend,
Miss Lane and the Year 1 Team
