There have been so many happy smiles coming into school this week and so many proud smiles throughout the days!
It’s hard to believe that this is just Reception’s second week altogether as they have continued to amaze us with their resilience and determination towards new routines and learning challenges.
Following an inspiring assembly led by Year 6, we had a wonderful class discussion about what makes each one of us special and what gift God gave to us. Reception shared some beautiful ideas and then thought about how we can use those gifts to help others and to become our own hero’s.
What have we been learning this week…
Phonics: This week we have learnt so read and write the sounds m, a, s and d. We were determined Sadie spiders when writing the letters and thought carefully about our letter formation. When we were saying these sounds, we were careful to make a soft sound (not adding ‘uh’ to the end). We have thought of so many words that begin with these sounds and have already filled some of the pages of Fred’s book.
Reception, your challenge over the weekend is to think of some more words that begin with these letter sounds. We will add them to our book on Monday!
Maths: This week we have begun our Maths Mastery journey with some fun subitising games. When we subitise we “don’t count (we) see the amount”! We were shown dots in different arrangements and we had to say how many we could see; but, we had to be quick because the dots disappeared after a few seconds! This has really helped to get our brains thinking about different amounts and how we see them.
KidSafe - As part of our curriculum we teach a series of KidSafe lessons. These lessons are taught across school in age appropriate ways. This week in Reception we have been thinking about the word trust and what it means. We played a fun game to show what trust means and talked about the trusted grown up’s that we have and why it is important to speak to them if ever we feel sad, scared or worried. We thought about the many ways we already keep ourselves safe and how a trusted grown up can help us stay safe too.
Autumn Harvest
Harvest is a time where we reflect on God’s creation and give thanks for everything that he has provided for us. As part of our celebrations across school, we will be collecting food which will be donated to Fylde Foodbank. Reception have been asked to collect soup (tinned or packet). Thank you in advance for your support.
Parents Meetings
Parents meetings will take place on Friday 20th October. These will be held virtually and will be a chance to talk about how your child has settled into school, what learning they have been enjoying so far and it will be an opportunity for you to ask any questions that you might have. Appointment slots for these meetings will be bookable via Mrs Gregan’s newsletter.
Let’s Celebrate…
Each week children across the school are celebrated for demonstrating our learning characters and our school virtues. They are celebrated in class and in our Friday assemblies.
Determined Sadie Spider: Amara-Louise!
Amara, you have impressed us so much this week with your determination - you have definitely been a Sadie Spider! During our phonics activities you have shown great resilience when practising your letter formation and you didn’t give up. It was just magical to see your face light up with pride when you realised what you could achieve when you are determined!
Well done Amara-Louise!
Focused Cooper Crab: Jemima!
Jemima, you have certainly been a focused Cooper Crab this week and I can see just how much you have enjoyed growing your brain in Reception already. During our phonics and maths activities, you are always ready to listen and learn and it’s just wonderful to see you sharing your ideas and to see how proud you are of your achievements.
An exciting learning journey lies ahead!
Well done Jemima!
Whole School Virtue - Active: Marcel!
Marcel, you are such a kind and caring friend to your peers in Reception and we can see that you are being active in all of your choices in class and around school. Thank you for being such a wonderful role model for our class.
Well done Marcel!
Important reminders:
Children need to bring a warm coat to school each day. The weather is becoming a little cooler but outdoor play is a huge part of learning in Reception so we do like to go out as much as possible.
