Year 1 - Monday 22nd June Home Learning Challenges

Good morning Year 1 and welcome to another wonderful week of learning. I am very excited to be welcoming some of you back to school today! This week, the main focus (in school), will be settling the children back into their learning environment and ensuring that they feel happy and safe. When the children are settled, they will be completing the activities I have planned on the daily blogs. Whether your child is learning from school or at home, we are all still learning together!

Please note that from today there will be no more Sumdog. Apologies that I have included the logo on the upcoming weekly plans (please just ignore it).

Phonics

Today I would like you to do the lesson Read and Hold a Sentence (2), by following the link to the YouTube channel above.

Use the links below to continue practising your speedy words and for those who are whizzing through them, can you spell them? Go on, have a go!

Reading

Remember to read everyday, just like we do at school. I would love you to read for at least 20 minutes each day, be that a physical book or an ebook on Epic/Accelerated Reader. If your book has an option to quiz on AR or Epic, please remember to do so.

English

Ask your child if they have heard of the Mr Men or Little Miss characters? Do they know any of their names? What do they look like? Can they describe the ones they know? Watch the video up until 0:42 mins. Can they spot any that they know?

Explore the Mr Men website, by clicking the button. Find out more about the characters you know by clicking on their picture. Discover some new ones and read with an adult all about them. Can you describe them orally? What do they enjoy/like? What do they look like?

Choose one of your favourites. Make a character profile poster by drawing a picture of them and then write some sentences which describe their appearance, what they like/dislike and anything else you find out about them, e.g. Little Miss Chatterbox Little Miss Chatterbox loves to talk. She talks all the time and more than a lot. She even talks in her sleep! Her friend Mr Chatterbox ran out of things to talk to her about. He was speechless!

Check capital letters for names/Mr/Mrs and at the start of the sentence. Full stops and exclamation marks are used at the end. Try to include the word ‘and’ in some of your sentences, joining two ideas together.

Maths

Year 1, I am buzzing with excitement as it is time for us to learn all about numbers up to 100! White Rose will be helping us with our learning over the next couple of weeks. Today’s lesson is Week 9 - Lesson 1 - Counting to 100. Click on the button to go to the White Rose website and once you have watched the lesson (and joined in), have a go at the activity below.

Have a wonderful day!
