‘A new year is like a blank page, ready for you to write your amazing story!’

Anon

What a great start to the new year! All the children came in with huge smiles excited to share their holiday news.

This week we have thought about how we can appreciate each other and show gratitude to those who help us and be like Jesus shining our lights. I asked the children to think of someone who had helped them and say thank you if they hadn’t already.

Conversation Starter:

Who are you grateful for and why?

What have we been learning this week:

After an exciting snow day on Sunday, we were pleased that it was still frosty in school. We have loved forest school and exploring the snow and ice outside.

Thank you for those who have filled in the forms, I do understand that for many of you it can be difficult to take time off work, but Grandparents and other family member are always welcome to come and share your children’s learning.

If you haven’t please could you fill in the form below. If you have any questions please email me.

Phonics: Keep practising the sounds at home and check the sound mats to see which sounds your child needs to work on. The Fred games QR codes are great for practising blending we are looking foward to having phonics in smaller groups next week.

PE: There was no Mr Nay, this week as he was on a first aid course but we loved practising our throwing skills by seeing which team could throw the most bean bags on the other side.

Today we loved our five stations practising our different Fundamental Movement Skills, Mr Cornwell popped in and was very impressed with our listening and PE skills.

Don’t forget our Wednesday session is now on Friday.

Forest School: Our first two groups loved their forest school sessions. Miss Lavelle said the children were excellent they all listened and this ensured they stayed safe. Well done I am so proud of you and love to hear this from other members of staff. I know Group 3 are very excited for Wednesday I am very proud of them too, none of them have been upset that their session was next week, they have been happy for their friends and they are looking forward to their session.

Understanding the World/Science: On Thursday we went outside to write in the ice, we decided to conduct an experiment: What would happen if we put water on our tuff trays outside over night? We then thought we could put some animals, glitter and snowflakes on the trays too. We thought if it was cold enough the water would freeze and we would have to rescue the animals. We were right! We put one tuff tray in the sun and the other in the shade and predicted that the ice in the tuff tray that was in the sun would melt quicker than the one in the shade. While outside we looked at our class tree, we remembered that our tree was a decidous tree because it loses its leaves. We looked in our floor book to remind us how our tree looked in Autumn and compared it to now, our tree no longer has any leaves on it.

Lily also did her own experiment at home, I love seeing all the pictures and hearing how excited the children are when they share their learning at home.

Let’s Celebrate:

Lunchtime awards:

Our lunch time certificates are awarded by the lunch time team to those children who they see being wonderful role models and using marvelous manors:

Well done to our Role Model Archie and Mollie for her Marvellous Manners.

Thank you both for being such wonderful role models and for remembering those acts of kindness everyday!

Well done to our certificate awardee: a ‘Bobby Bee’ for her enthusiasm with her learning, it was lovely to hear from Miss Lavelle and Mrs Krol about how hard you had worked during the session.

Whole School Virtues - Faithfilled and Hopeful:

Thank you for being faithfulled during forest school, you helped look after God’s wonderful world by tidying up our field with a huge smile on your face.

Henry the Dog: Henry is going home with this person for always being a kind friend, you come in every day excited to learn something new.

Important Information and Upcoming Events

Show and Tell:

Please look below to see which day your child can share their show and tell news. We love to celebrate each child’s achievements in class. So we use show and tell as an opportunity to share things that they are proud of, or to share something that is important to them. Great show and tell examples are: sharing photos, bringing in certificates or medals, a souvenir  from a trip out or something that they have made at home.

Important Reminders:

  • Polite reminder that we are a Nut free school. Please can you bring in healthy snacks please refer to the poster for suitable snacks, we always have fruit avalible too.

  • PE
Our PE days are Tuesday (outside) and Friday (inside). On these days, children can come to school in their PE uniform and will remain in this for the day. We kindly ask that velcro trainers (white, black or navy) are worn as this allows the children to be indepoendent when taking their shoes off and putting them back on. Polite reminder that for health and safety reasons, no jewellery is to be worn on PE days. We kindly ask that this is removed at home before coming into school.

  • Art T-shirt
Please can you bring in an art T-shirt, if you haven’t already, these help us keep uniforms as clean as possible.

  • Jumpers: please can you check that your child has brought the right jumper or PE jacket home, they can easily get mixed up when bags are being packed, there are a few missing in class, thank you.
