‘The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.'
Morrie Schwartz
We ended our week and half term with a whole school Mass, we walked with our buddies and it was a lovely service, we sit and listened beautifully. We finished our RE off retelling Jesus feeding the 5000 and discussed how we can show love and kindness to others. We listened to the Story the big Umbrella by Amy June Bates and drew ourselves to put underneath our own umbrella. We thought abouth things we could say to each other to show kindness and wrote them on our umbrella: ‘Everyone is welcome to our school’ ‘Do you want to sit next to me?’
What have we been learning this week:
Maths Workshop
A huge thank you to those who could make it on Wednesday, and for your support with the other Reception friends, the children were brilliant and so sensible. Mrs Hotchkiss was amazed. You should all have a Maths pack with the games for Week 1 to start with we will give the games out every 2 weeks to give you change to look at them then play at home. This games will help your child improve their fluency. Please email if you have any questions.
Don’t forget to watch these videos to help practise your phonics at home.

Lunchtime awards:
Our lunch time certificates are awarded by the lunch time team to those children who they see being wonderful role models and using marvelous manors:
Well done to our Role Model Archr and Rupert H for his Marvellous Manners.
Thank you both for being such wonderful role models and for remembering those acts of kindness everyday!
This half term I am giving my certificates and stars to my team:
Mrs Summersall, Miss Forster and Mrs Kroll
They go above and beyond everyday I am grateful that I work with such an enthusiastic and creative team. They provide the children with wonderful experiences, planning engaging and challenging activities for the children. Nothing is ever too much and they are so supportive. I am hopeful for the rest of the year as I know we will continue to plan exciting opportunities for the class.
Every single child in Reception loves coming to school and that is because of the team. So thank you for all that you do, I really appreciate it and I know the children and parents do too :)
Henry the Dog: Henry is going home with this person for working hard on your reading, keep practsing your blending well done :).
Important Information and Upcoming Events
Assembly:
On Tuesday 4th March it is our class assembly there will be two performances at 9:10 and 9:35. You are welcome to watch one or both performances. Please can you practise your childs lines at home over the half term break as we won’t have much time to practise before our performance.
Library Trip
On Tuesday 11th March we will visit St Annes Library in the afternoon, we will leave school at around 1:30. We really encourage parental/Grandparental engagement so it would be wonderful if we could have some adult helpers. If you are free and would love to join us please can you send me an email. Please note mobile phones can not be used around the children or to take photos of the children. There will be school iPads and photos will be uploaded to the blog.
When we are back I will hand out the library card membership forms, I have attached a copy below. If your child does not have a library card and you would like them to have one then please fill in the form and return to school.
Stay and Play
Thank you for those who have filled in the forms. It has helped me to plan the most suitable days for the majority of parents. Our sessions will be on:
Friday 4th April 9:15 - 10:15
and
Monday 7th April 2:15 - 3:15.
Please fill in the form and select your preferred date. If you can’t make either date any family member is welcome to attend in your place. We are very excited to share with you our learning from our Spring term.
Lenten Boxes
In the lead up to Lent, we will be thinking about how we can support others in our local community. It has become an Our Lady’s tradition to make and swap Lenten boxes. This year, each Reception child will make a Lenten box that they will give to their buddy in Year 6. Year 6 will also be making a Lenten box for Reception.
We kindly ask that these boxes are made during the half term break and brought back to school by Wednesday 5th March. Below is your child’s buddy.
Once swapped, these Lenten boxes can be used to collect donations for acts of kindness.
Show and Tell:
Please look below to see which day your child can share their show and tell news. We love to celebrate each child’s achievements in class. So we use show and tell as an opportunity to share things that they are proud of, or to share something that is important to them. Great show and tell examples are: sharing photos, bringing in certificates or medals, a souvenir from a trip out or something that they have made at home.
Important Reminders:
Polite reminder that we are a Nut free school. Please can you bring in healthy snacks please refer to the poster for suitable snacks, we always have fruit avalible too.
PE
Our PE days are Tuesday (outside) and Friday (inside). On these days, children can come to school in their PE uniform and will remain in this for the day. We kindly ask that velcro trainers (white, black or navy) are worn as this allows the children to be indepoendent when taking their shoes off and putting them back on. Polite reminder that for health and safety reasons, no jewellery is to be worn on PE days. We kindly ask that this is removed at home before coming into school.Art T-shirt
Please can you bring in an art T-shirt, if you haven’t already, these help us keep uniforms as clean as possible.Jumpers: please can you check that your child has brought the right jumper or PE jacket home, they can easily get mixed up when bags are being packed, there are a few missing in class, thank you.
