‘When you are curious, you find lots of interesting things to do!’

What a fun week we have had exploring Africa. We enjoyed sharing the story Handa’s Surprise (click the button below to see the story) after watching the story, we expired the fruit that Handa had in her basket, we described how the fruit looked and felt. When we cut the fruit into different part, we found some brilliant patterns and shapes. We loved smelling and trying the fruit, some children were Brave Tommy Turtles, trying fruit they had never had before.

Next, we thought about the the parts of the story and worked as a class to find the character, setting, problem and solution. Look at these brilliant examples below.

We had great fun create our own animal prints after looking at some examples and we created our own piece of music, then had some fun dancing along to some African music. (See the video below and the picture they were following)

In Read Write Inc this week we have learnt two new sounds ‘igh’ and ‘ow’. We have continued to work in smaller groups during RWI to focus our learning and grow our brains. The children have amazed us with their phonic knowledge and excitement.

During Maths this week, we have been think about the parts that make up a whole object and using the sentence…My head is part of me and my whole of me is Miss Lavelle to help us. The children were great at finding the object by listening to the clues. For example, I spy a whole toy with bumpy, black , round parts. Can you think of what the whole toy could have been?

Let’s Celebrate

Alexandra is a Co-operative Roger Robin - For being a great team player in our class. We have been impressed with how sensibly you have tidied up without being asked and set a really good example to others. Well done Sasha!

Henry is a Determined Sadie Spider - For being so determined  to write the sentence each day during Read Write Inc. We are so impressed you have tried to improve each day and have remembered to use your ‘Fred Fingers’ to help you write each word in the sentence. It was great to see how proud you were of yourself. Well done Henry!

Have a brilliant weekend,

The Reception Team
