It’s been lovely welcoming grown ups and families into school this week for our stay and plays. The children have been looking forward to it and were so excited to show how much we have learnt and how much our classroom has evolved with our learning!
Thank you so much for coming, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
What have we been learning this week…
RE: This week in RE we have continued to think about Lent and the small acts of kindness that we can do to help show our love for others. We have also begun to think about the great sacrifice that Jesus makes and how he took time in the desert to prepare for this and to feel closer to God. We thought about what things we do to feel closer to God and the children shared some beautiful ideas such as “we go to church”, “we say a prayer”, “we sing hymns” and “we light a candle to remind us he is near”. We also thought about Jesus’s time in the desert and how we can use Lent as our time to feel closer to God. We asked ourselves, could we find a sense of calm from reading a story or drawing instead of playing on an electronic device?
Literacy: This week in drawing club we have explored the story ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. We read and explored the story together, discussing and describing the characters and setting using our new vocabulary: wandering, joyful, obstacle, courageous, tiptoe, panic, flee and hide. We have challenged ourselves to try and use these words to write a label, caption or a short sentence to describe the various settings and obstacles that the family face on their bear hunt!
Maths: This week in Maths, we have continued to explore the composition of 5 using the song ‘5 little men in a flying saucer’. We have discussed the various ways we can make 5, demonstrated this using our fingers or objects around the room and used the following stem sentences to help us remember e.g. “3 and 2 make 5 altogether”, “4 and 1 make 5 altogether” or “5 and 0 make 5 altogether”. Then we explore how if we swap the numbers around the whole is still 5 e.g. “2 and 3 makes 5 altogether” etc. We are becoming more confident with our number bonds and working towards the goal of saying number bonds to 5 speedily!
Let’s Celebrate…
This weeks learning character and virtue awards goes to:
Determined Sadie Spider: Cora!
Cora, this week you set yourself a challenge during drawing club and you were determined to write your sentence. You thought carefully about the sounds you could hear in the word and how the letters are formed correctly. You took your time, you had a positive attitude and showed brilliant determination. Cora we are so proud of you, being determined is not always easy but you did it with a smile! We know you will continue to fly on your learning journey.
Well done Cora!
Reflective Lizzie Ladybird: Alex!
Alex, we have seen how much you are reflecting on all of the skills you have learnt and you listen and reflect on ways that you can make something even better. This week you wrote a brilliant caption all by yourself and then, after being a reflective Lizzie Ladybird, you turned it into a sentence and remembered to use finger spaces in between all of the words. Keep being reflective Alex, you have an exciting journey ahead. Well done Alex!
Whole School Virtues - Loving and Compassionate: Nellie!
Nellie, you always remember to treat others with love and compassion. We hear the loving ways you speak to all of your friends in Reception and how you treat them with compassion if you notice something is wrong. Thank you for being such a wonderful friend!
Well done Nellie!
Lunch time awards:
We also have lunch time certificates which are awarded by the lunch time team to those children who they see being wonderful role models and using marvelous manors:
This weeks role model: Well done Rose!
This weeks marvelous manors: Well done Theo!
Thank you both for being such wonderful role models and for remembering those acts of kindness everyday!
Important notices and reminders:
World Book Day - 7th March.
Children are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. As part of our book day celebration, all children in school are asked to bring a magical object that we can use in class to create stories. This could be a special stone, shell, feather etc. We look forward to making some creative stories with these! The Book Fair will be in the hall on Friday 1st March, Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th March.
Polite reminder to please make sure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s names. We have a few of the same water bottles in class but with no names. This is causing some confusion and the children are getting their bottles mixed up. Thank you.
