‘There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it’
Edith Wharton
This week we thought about how we could serve others like Jesus, we grow in the love of God through serving each other. We can put others first and support them by being kind. We discussed that God made us all and reflected on why we are special and what makes us unique.
Conversation Starter
Each week we will give you a question that we would like you to think about and discuss together at home. This could be over dinner time as a family, at bedtime, on a walk or even in the car. However you choose to discuss this question is up to you, but the idea is that it will help to give an insight in to what we talk about in school, help children to understand more about themselves or others.
What makes you unique?
Our classroom has been buzzing with excitement and team work this week as we have welcomed all of our Reception friends to spend full days in school together! The children have continued to explore our inside and outside classrooms and they have been working together as a fantastic team. As they are settling into their routines and becoming more familiar with the different areas,
What have we been learning this week:
Phonics: This week we have continued our reading and writing journey, following the phonics scheme Read Write Inc. We introduced the letters ‘a’,‘s’ and ‘d’.‘a’ makes a short sound (apple) ‘s’ is soft sound ‘ssss’ rather than ‘suh’ and ‘d’ is a short sound (duck).
Can you find the letters ‘a’ , ‘s’ and ‘d’ at home this weekend? Can you think of words beginning with ‘a’, ‘s’ and ‘d’?
Understanding the World: We finished our self-portraits they look amazing! Next week we will be looking at our families. It would be great if you could send family photos in to be displayed in our classroom. If you are happy for you family picture to be displayed then please send them in to:
d.drummond@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk or s.hartley@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk.
Maths: We have been subitising (say the number without counting) numbers up to 3, we played a game where we had to say how many pom poms there were and show the amount on our fingers, we are getting very speedy.
PE: we loved our PE lessons this week, we met Mr Nay who will be joining us on a Tuesday for our outdoor PE lessons. Just a reminder our PE days are on Tuesday (outside) and Wednesday (inside).
Art: we enjoyed our first art lesson with Mrs Mather, we made our own patterns and went outside and created different nature rubbings.
We have enjoyed eating our school dinners this week! We have been very impressed with lots of children trying new food.
KIDSAFE
We discussed our feelings and worked together to find out what makes us feel sad, scared and worried and how our body feels when we have these feelings.
We gave a name for all these feelings - ‘yukky feelings’. we can now use this word to describe how we are feeling if anything makes us feel sad, scared or worried.
