Reception Weekly Blod 17.10.24 ‘Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world.’

‘Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world.’

Matilda, Roald Dahl

Wow I can’t believe we have finished our 1st half term, we’ve had an amazing start we have settled in so quickly and we are growing our brains every day. Today we found out that we had won the best class during lunch time out of the whole school. I am so proud, Mrs McGow and Mrs Ely can’t believe we are in Reception we have been great role models to others.

This week we reflected on the word greatness and what we think it means. Jesus taught his disciples how they could be great by being kind, thoughtful and helpful and this is how God wants us to live, to be the best we can be. We thought about our families and how they show us greatness by puting our needs first.

Conversation Starter

Each week we will give you a question that we would like you to think about and discuss together at home. This could be over dinner time as a family, at bedtime, on a walk or even in the car. However you choose to discuss this question is up to you, but the idea is that it will help to give an insight in to what we talk about in school, help children to understand more about themselves or others.

What does the word greatness mean to you?

Can you talk about someone who shows true greatness by putting others needs first?

What have we been learning this week:

We have loved our doctors role play, we will keep as a doctors when we return to school, but then we will turn our role play into a shop.

Phonics: please remember when practising your sounds at home, not to add ‘uh’ on the end. Our sounds this week were‘e’ (as in the sound an ape makes), ‘l’ (short sound ball) and ‘h’ (ffffff no ur at the end).

Reading Books: please can you sign to let us know you have read together at home. These books will be changed every Monday, please can you ensure reading folders are in bags every day so books can be changed and we can listen to your child read in school.

Maths: we have been comparing and using the word fewer, e.g. Sam have 4 dinosaurs, Pat has 2. Pat has fewer than Sam. We then groups lots of objects in different ways such as colours, animals (long necks, tails etc) and counted and compared them
