Ongoing learning challenge - IXL maths ‘Numbers and Counting up to 20’. There are lots of questions on here, I would like the children to do as many as they can over the next couple of weeks.

Reading

Please ensure children are reading every night.

Flash Cards

A few children have now learned ALL of the flash cards. This is a HUGE achievement and I am incredibly proud of their hard work and determination. For these children their new challenge is to spell these words. They will be tested on the spellings of these words once a week and moved onto the next set when they can confidently spell them.

Home Learning 17.1.20

Maths

The children have been given a maths worksheet to do, all about tens and ones. The children have completed a similar challenge in class. In order to master our learning I like the children to be able to teach what they have learned. Please ask the children to explain this learning to you. You can help them to consolidate this learning by prompting them: ‘How many ones are there in 13?’, ‘How do you know?’, ‘How many ones are there in 10?’.

Maths

The children have been given an addition within 10 worksheet to do. Please could this be stuck into their home learning books.

I have also challenged the children to have a go on IXL. There are LOTS of questions under the unit ‘Numbers and Counting to 10’, so this home learning is an ongoing challenge for the next few weeks. I would love the children to have a go at the questions under this section and answer as many as they can. As always, thank you for supporting the children using the computer/ipad to do this. Their ICT skills are definitely improving!

Home Learning 13.12.19

In class we have been practising cursive handwriting. The children have learned ‘over and back round’ letters so far. I have given the children a sheet to practise on and be stuck into their home learning book. If they would like to have an extra practise in their home learning books too, that would be super.

Home Learning 6.12.19

Maths

The children have been challenged to complete the repeating patterns on the worksheet. To be stuck into home learning books.

For an extra challenge, I would love for the children to come up with their own patterns too. They can complete these in their home learning books.

Reading

As much reading as possible please!

Home Learning 29.11.19

Next week the children will be innovating the story of Supertato and replacing the character of Supertato with their own super vegetable. I have asked the children to practise orally retelling the story, with their new character in Supertato’s place. The story map can be found below.

Maths

Shape worksheet, to be stuck into home learning book.

Home Learning 22.11.19

ENGLISH

Year 1’s home learning this week is to design their own super vegetable/fruit!

The Superhero must have a name and I would love the children to label their superhero with adjectives.

Please do not feel the need to create this superhero in real life, but of course if the children would like to, that would be SUPER!

IXL - Maths (children to complete as much as they are able to.)

C.19 - C.23.

Geography

Please could the children bring the name of their road and house number, written down. On Tuesday, we will be learning all about where we live.

Assembly Lines

Children are to continue learning their assembly lines. The majority of the children know these off by heart; however some children still need a little bit of practise.

Supertato

Oh no! The Evil Pea is on the loose and will be visiting your homes this week. I wonder, what will he do to your fruit and vegetables? Can the children create their own character who has been tormented by the Evil Pea? The children could create a mini crime scene (please see year 1 page), or could draw their poor fruit/vegetable in their home learning book. For an extra challenge, I would like the children to answer the following questions, in character: Who are you? What has happened to you? How do you feel? We have been using the personal pronoun ‘I’ in class, with a capital letter.

If your child creates a crime scene and would like a photo stuck into their books. You are more than welcome to email a photo to me. e.lane@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk

Lots of reading please!

Home Learning 1.11.19

Please help the children to learn their lines for our class assembly. These are stuck into their reading logs. I have challenged the children to learn them as well as they can, but please reassure the children that I will be able to prompt them on the day.

Reading, reading and more reading!

The children will share their creations on 1.11.19, during show and tell.

Home Learning 20.9.19

This week the children have been asked to practise their number formation. Let’s make sure all of those numbers are the right way around! The children have also been challenged to describe Mole (from our class story) using as many adjectives as they can. If you could stick these two sheets into their home learning books, it would be greatly appreciated.

Please continue to practise the speed sounds with the children. If the children could practise their sounds every time before they read, that would be AMAZING!

Finally, please read, read, and read! “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”

Home Learning 13.9.19

The children’s homework this week is all about READING!

The children have each been given a copy of the Read Write Inc. speed sounds chart and a lolly stick. This is the children’s to keep. Please spend time pointing to each of the sounds in and out of order with the lolly stick. Being able to fluently recognise, read and correctly say these sounds is invaluable to the children’s progression in reading and writing.

The children may not have learned all of the sounds at school yet, it would be wonderful for the children to become familiar with them, all ready for when they are explicitly taught. Watch this space as over the coming weeks the children will be producing a video on how to correctly pronounce the sounds!

Next week’s show and tell (Friday) will be for the children to bring in their favourite book from home. Children can bring this book in on any day and keep it safely in their tray.

Please read with the children as much as possible over the weekend and remember to record the children’s reading in their log.

Finally, thank you for supporting all of the children with decorating their home learning books. It was amazing to see their personality all over the covers!

Home Learning 6.9.19

The children have each been given a Home Learning book. Homework will be given out each Friday and will need to be returned to school by the following Thursday.

The children have two special tasks this week. Firstly, please could you support the children to back their home learning book; this will help to protect the books when being brought to and from school. The children can choose to do this in whichever way they like - the more creative the better. The home learning book could be covered in wrapping paper, stick back plastic, newspaper, photographs etc. When the home learning books are returned next week I will stick a name label on each of them, so do not worry about making the name visible.

On the first page of the Home Learning book please could the children draw a picture of their family (furry friends included). Next week the children will have the chance to talk about the special people in their lives; an opportunity for the children to see how everyone’s family is unique and precious.

You will notice that the children will not be bringing a reading book home with them this weekend. Reading books will be coming home with the children from next week. Please encourage the children to read as much as they can over the weekend, prompting them to use their Fred Talk to sound out words they are struggling with.
