Year 2 Home Learning to be handed in on Monday 27th November

NATIVITY LINES

THANK YOU - to everyone who has really worked hard on their lines for the nativity. It is tricky trying to help the children to understand the scene but if they know their lines it all makes sense to them. Please make this your priority this week again.

LEARNING THE SONGS

MATHS

THank you to all those children who complete their IXl challenge every week you are doing brilliantly! This week acn you complete: IXL A21 and A23.

SPELLINGS

Adding the suffix ly this week! Please learn the following spellings- click on the button - they are also in the children’s homework books.

Please ensure homework books are returned on Monday so that they can be marked and new work placed in them if we need to - Thank you.

Homework helps give the children a deeper sense that we are working on their learning together (school and home) -reinforcing and consolidating what we have learnt at school.

Year 2 Homework to be handed in on Monday 20th November

WOW! The puppets were fantastic we have played with them in class learning the partner of a traditional tales and how it repeats itself!

NATIVITY PLAY PARTS AND LINES TO LEARN

It is that time of year when parts are given out and rehearsals for the Nativity begin!!! Every child in class has been given a script. We have chatted about making your part the very best it can be. Year 2 are on stage/side stage all the time so they will be contributing fully- we have a lot to learn. On the front of the script is your child’s name and their part. Please make learning these lines over the next few weeks a priority when it comes to homework. Please practice saying the lines before and after so they understand the scene. Once they have the line practice saying it from the top of the stairs - projecting your voice!

SPELLINGS

We have looked carefully at adjectives ending in y over the past two weeks. It is important to remember how the root word is spelt before adding the y! This week we have looked at a special focus Homophones. We have explored how these words sound the same but they are spelt differently and mean two different things! TRICKY! Can you write a short sentence with the word in.

see and sea

son and sun

blew and blue

knight and night

saw and sore

MATHS

More numbers to 100 - please complete IXL B3 B6

Thank you - have fun!

More learning opportunities over the half term - Year 2

Dear parents,

Thank you for all the support you have given the children over this first half term. They have worked extremely hard and it is exciting to see them making progress. Both Miss Bassett and I look forward to meeting with you online this coming Friday.

Below are tasks that consolidate learning which has just taken place and some pre-learning for the next half term.

READING

Please read everyday. Please listen to your child and help them build up their fluency. Read a novel to them too- this has an impact on their comprehension skills and on their expanding vocabulary- enjoy!

MATHS

We have played Numbots in school - sucessfully. The children have been given their password - it has been stuck into the children’s homework book or reading record. If it should get lost please email me (l.hotchkiss@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk) and I will send it.

The children have enjoyed playing the game and it is there for them to practice their maths fluency. It is important that they complete the tasks independently as the platform gives me data - which I can use to further support them.

We reloaded the app onto the ipads in class and it is working - so you may want to do this it is free or you can play online through the website. Please note that it will ask for the correct school first - please enter our postcode FY81LB - the school name will appear and then your child’s password(pin) will work.

PRE-LEARNING - HISTORY

Research shows us that when children engage in some pre-learning they feel more confident when tackling a new topic in school. Next half term we will be studying Florence Nightingale. What can you find out about her? Can you make a Poster displaying your facts, or record them into your homework book.

Do you have any nurses in your family? Can you interview them and ask them questions about their job. With their permission you could make a short film of them in their uniform explaining what they do. There are many different types of nurses so we could look at the differences!

Do you aspire to be a Nurse or a Doctor?

PRE-LEARNING SCIENCE

Later in the half term we will be learning the difference between man-made and natural materials. I have made a link here to an educational film all about the subject! Could you collect man- made and natural materials from around your home. Could you make a collage (be creative and artistic) using just natural or just man-made? - Have fun!

Finally - can you respond to Mrs Gregan’s call for crafted poppies?

Have a lovely holiday - enjoy family time.
