The children have started to learn the Christmas songs already and are doing extremely well. We will be sending the words home for you to support your child perfect their performance!! It’s all very exciting!

Please do not worry about Nativity costumes we have most of the items here. You may however need to provide your child with white leggings and a white t-shirt, but we will confirm this over the next couple of weeks.

This week...

Such a busy week!!!

All the children have designed a firework picture on the computer and then printed it out. We then decorated it using lots of sparkles!! They look fantastic!

During the week we have also been finding out about the Remembrance Day poppy. We watched a short video about why we commemorative on the 11th November. The children then printed their own field of poppies.

Click here to watch the video.

On Friday we intend to make Gingerbread Men. The children have reminded me that I said we would after the holiday...!! We will eat them for snack!

Currently at nursery we are very short of socks, underpants/knickers and trousers. May I ask, if you have any of our spare clothing at home could you please return them, if not donations of the above would be greatly received!

Happy to be back!

Everyone was excited to be back at nursery this week. It was lovely to catch up with all our friends and find out what we have been doing during the holidays.

We have had an extremely busy week!

On Monday we began to explore the number 4 in all its entirety!

On Tuesday the children wrote their own story! It’s all about a wellie getting stuck on a foot! Ask your children to tell it to you! It was also ‘Danceathon’ day…..it was very exhausting! Well done to everyone who managed to get to nursery for 8.15 am!!

On Wednesday we made pumpkin pie for snack, and found some fun facts all about pumpkins. We also read a story about building resilience. It is called ‘The most magnificent thing’. Afterwards we all decided to make our own ‘magnificent things’. Click here to listen to the story!!

On Thursday the children have been practicing their fundamental movement skills in the hall. We focused on over arm throwing…they are getting very good!

On Friday…maybe a restful day? That rarely happens in nursery!

The rest of the term is equally frantic. Keep checking the dates on your September newsletter. I will update you on the Nativity on a later blog.

Half term already!

It’s hard to believe that we have already been at nursery for a full half term! Everyone has settled so well in to nursery life and is embracing all the new challenges that learning can offer. The children have worked so hard, I think they are in need of a well earned rest.

I do hope everyone manages to get some time to relax and recharge their batteries in readiness for a VERY busy next half term. I would also like to thank you all for your wonderful support of nursery, it is greatly appreciated.

We made a scarecrow called Poppy!

The children thought it would be a fantastic idea to make a scarecrow for the nursery garden, to scare away the birds!!

We found some garden canes and old clothes in the cupboard. A group of friends stuffed the clothes with autumn leaves. Everyone thought the scarecrow should have a happy face and be called Poppy! A good choice I think!

Nursery photographs

Tempest photographers will be coming in on Wednesday the 16th October 2019. Individual and sibling photographs will be taken during the morning. If you have children who are not in school but you wish to have a photograph taken with their siblings in school, then please email school to Mrs Hodges,      bursar@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk  as we will have to ask you to come in early and be here for 8:30am. We need to hear from you so that we can assess numbers.

Supporting interactions

Joint engagement happens when you and your child are paying attention to the same object or event during a back and forth interaction. This might happen as you laugh together while watching monkeys at the zoo, or when you’re having fun pushing cars down a ramp. Whatever it is you’re doing, you’re both aware that you’re sharing an interest in the same thing.

Hungry Little Minds

Hungry Little Minds is a new government campaign to support parents with helping their children to develop well in the areas of Communication Language and Literacy. The key message for parents from the campaign is:

‘Many little things light up hungry little minds. Children take everything in, and even the smallest things you do with them can make a big difference. They love it when you chat and read with them, even when they’re too young to understand everything. Whatever the time and wherever you are, you can turn almost anything in to a game. And every little things you do together will help set them up nicely for the day they start school’

This week....

It has been such a wonderful week at nursery. The children have embraced nursery life with great enthusiasm, we are so pleased.

During this week we have been painting and drawing pictures of ourselves. We have looked closely at our faces and bodies in a mirror and asked questions such as “how many”, “why”, “the same or different” and “what does each body part do?” We hope to have our 'There’s only one world and one me’ display finished next week, please try and pop in for a look! We will be extending this learning thread by discussing exercise and healthy eating.

At the beginning we introduced the number 1 and have spent the whole week exploring this particular number in all its entirety. We have found it hiding in our environment, in books and in songs that we have been singing, in fact we found there is 1 ‘something’ everywhere.

Could I take this opportunity to remind everyone to ensure that your child has one piece of fruit for each session that they are at nursery and a blue Our Lady book bag. Book bags can be purchased fro Top Mark in Wood St, St Annes.

This week everyone should have received their welcome newsletter from their key person. If for some reason you have not yet received yours please let me know.

I believe the weather is going to be lovely this weekend, I hope you all have the time to enjoy it!
