As well as being part of the Our Lady Star of the Sea family, we are also part of a much bigger family - one which has been celebrated fully this week. Our Catholic Cluster of schools is very important to us, as we work with them to grow our family of Christ. Sometimes our teachers work together, but this week it was our pupils turn. On Monday our Year 4 class headed off to St Bedes to take part in a prayer day with other Year 4 classes. The children looked at social justice, the rosary and prayer. It was a lovely opportunity to come together as a cluster and pray. The children could also start to think about their transition to high school. Then today, I have had the pleasure of accompanying a small group of Year 6 children to St Peters to investigate Forest Schools. We brought together the children who are going to similar high schools as part of their transition. It was a real success and something that we want to continue in the future. Thank you to all of our pupils for being such wonderful role models.
When we go through a period of change, all sorts of emotions can come to the surface. There can be anxiety, as we do not know what is coming and we have a fear of the unknown. There can be excitement, that we are ready for a change and we know it is a chance to grow. There can be sorrow, for what we are leaving behind. There can be calmness, as we know we are moving with a group of people who we know and love. Whatever our emotion, we can experience change in the safeness of Jesus’s love. We know that He has a plan for us and that by following His path, we are bringing His kingdom alive on earth.
Today, all of the children have experienced change as they have moved up into their new class - just for a little while. When planning the classes for next year, we have tried to ensure that the children have a consistent adult moving up with them to ensure that the children have a feeling of safety and familiarity. It just helps to manage that feeling of change a little bit more.

It is hard to believe that we have only 9 days of teaching time left. The teachers have been really busy writing the most beautiful reports for the children. These will be sent out next Friday, along with the results of any statutory assessment that your child has completed this year. These reports celebrate the whole child; every single one of their gifts and talents that they have. The statutory assessments are just a snapshot - a moment in time from a wonderful year. They are always sent out with the main report as that is the most important part.
‘It takes time to build a castle. Even Rome was not built in a day.’
Well…it has taken time to get started but we are finally seeing the Student Council Castle coming to life on the field. Over the past week, the builders have been in creating the castle of our design. All we need now is the flags for the top! Keep an eye on it over the next week and hopefully it will be in full use before we finish for the summer holidays.

Our Weekly Attendance
Sports Days
We managed to get another sports day under our belt yesterday - with Marsden proving victorious. It was really a close run event with one point separating first from second, and second from third.
The points from the Year 1 and 2 sports day will now be added to the results from EYFS and Year 3 & 4 sports day.
Next Wednesday, 12th July, our Year 5 & 6 classes will be finishing the event - then we will know our overall winners.
St Annes Carnival
St Annes Carnival
The weather is looking a little bleak on Saturday morning for the parade - but we will be there regardless. We are hoping that the rain will hold off until after the parade at least. Those who are walking are asked to meet on Clifton Drive by the church opposite Aldi. We will be meeting from 9.30am, but the walk does not start until 10.30am. Please feel free to come a little later. There is lots of children walking which is great. I am pairing our younger children up with our older children. Parents, if you could walk with us too, I would appreciate it. You are a part of our school community too. Given the weather forecast, school uniform or PE kit is the most sensible. A good pair of walking shoes is needed, and possible a coat. We will be finishing the parade where we started, this will be the collection point at the end of the walk.
Next Friday is ECO DAY in school. A day where the children can wear green and bring in £1. We are trying to raise some money to buy new recycling bins for the playground.
As we approach the end of the year, we will be celebrating our Year 6 children and Mrs Hodges at the Leavers’s Mass on Wednesday 19th July at 9.30am. Please do come and join us. I know many of you will also want to thank the staff in school who have played such an important role in your child’s development. A thank you is always enough. A kind word in a card or a letter of thanks really does show the staff that you care. Please do not think that you have to buy gifts, especially given the current climate.
Enjoy the weekend with your families. Let’s hope the sun continues to shine!
