Thinking about this week, I cannot believe just how much learning we have got through. It really has been jam packed! The pace of a Year 6 classroom is so fast-paced but so very exciting, our heads are bursting with learning and excitement.
In RE, we have continued to look at the Kingdom of God and the parable of the Prodigal Son. This is such an important message and one that we can take into our daily lives. The children unpicked the parable and thought about the key teaching of Jesus and how this corresponds today. We will be starting to look at people who have gone before us who lived by Jesus’s teaching and were missionaries of faith. Skellig has really gripped us class and has kept us on the edge of our seats. We have used the novel to discuss home-schooling and have written some wonderful discussion texts on this question. In geography, we have continued to look at South America and have started to use Book Creator to make interactive books. We also looked at trade and export in South America, which took us down the road of illegal logging in Brazil. Another piece of writing was then launched…a persuasive letter to the President of Brazil. Rounding and rounding roman numerals in maths has been a key feature of the week. Those pesky Roman Numerals just need learning, then we can continue to apply it to other areas of maths. Some of the children have taken a poster with them to put up at home. Keep testing them on them at home! We created another human circuit in science with energy balls. The children tested conductors and insulators practically - it was so much fun!
This year for Harvest, we are collecting pasta sauces. Please can you bring these into class over the next week to contribute to our school collection for the Food Bank.
Learning Awards - another great week of learning for all children this week.
Ethan Connor has been awarded the determined award this week. He is so determined with all aspects of his work, in every piece of his work, he just wants it to be his best. Ethan constantly listens to feedback and acts on it. Well done Ethan!
Bethany Mazzola has been super reflective this week. When learning gets tricky, she digs in and is reflective on the teaching that she has had. Keep up this learning attitude Bethany, you will only continue to make progress!
