Welcome back after our lovely Autumn break. The weather was kind to us, if not a little chilly. We now have eight weeks to fill with fun and laughter, not forgetting lots of fabulous learning too.
In Art…
Reception started their half term off with some observational drawing. A beautiful pot plant was our subject and with a graphite stick and two greens and a brown crayon, we drew what we could see.
Year One started their new topic Printmaking and experimented with different print materials to see which they liked the most. These were used with primary coloured paints. We created beautiful patterns.
Year Two are having Design Technology this half term and will be learning all about Wheels and Axles. We will eventually make our own moving vehicle, complete with working wheels and axles. We were asked to bring in a car or something with wheels (thank you to those who did) and we looked and discussed how the wheels moved and was a circle the only shape a wheel could be. We were given a box of bits and four wheels, in pairs we tried making the wheels move together. This is very tricky and something we will be looking at in more detail next week.
Year Three started their Collage topic by looking at the work of Swiss artist Paul Klee and in particular his paint ‘Highways and Byways’. We decided that the name was outdated for modern times and came up with various new titles, such as Motorways and A roads or Lanes and Streets. We used three different coloured papers and carefully using a ruler and scissors created our own versions.
Year Four started their new topic, Painting, but as their lessons fell on our Danceathon day, we were very creative with our time. We had a lesson with Miss Sarah, learning the Cha Cha Cha and had to get up and dance at a moments notice that painting wasn’t a practical idea this week. So we prepared our books with different papers for painting on next week and completed one of my special challenges. Circle art, the page had only circles on it and we had to draw as many different things those circles could become. A pizza, a face even a Christmas pudding! We danced and danced, what a fabulous way to raise money for our playground.
Year five had a one off lesson to create stunning Greek Vases. Using black paper on a terracotta vase in collage, they depicted some of the things they had learned in Mrs Hotchkiss’ topic. They really look amazing and are on display in the year five classroom.
Year six Started their Textiles topic by looking at the buildings and bridges of architect Norman Foster. We drew sections of his work by using a view finder to select a section of interest . These are research and planning for next weeks sessions. Four at a time were called to the dyeing station where they painted on fabric with fabric dye and watch the primary colours blend into each other to create new and exciting secondary colours. These are also for our sessions next week.
The new Art Club members have been selected and will start their five weeks of arty fun on Tuesday 5th November at lunchtime.
Have a wonderful weekend.
God Bless.
