Happy New Year to you all. I hope you had a wonderful time with your families over the Christmas break? Everyone has come back to school refreshed and with a spring in their step, I have heard lovely stories of your times over the holidays.
In Art…
Reception were so lovely as I walked into their classroom on Wednesday afternoon, I was greeted so warmly, asking questions about my Christmas. We started the new year off with a scissor skills challenge. Using my special scissors, designed to help young hands hold scissors correctly, we had levels to complete. Level one was a straight line leading up to level six a very tricky pattern line. Everyone was so focused and determined to succeed. Well done reception, great effort.
Year one were very excited to find out that their topic this half term was 3D. We looked at the artist Andy Goldsworthy and his fantastic 3D art forms. We used items from around the school and created our own 3D art forms. We were very impressed with our creativity and many said they wanted to make more at home.
Year two looked at Aboriginal art in their new topic, 3D. We looked at who the Aboriginal people are, where they come from and what their art looked like. Using authentic paint colours and cotton buds, we painted in this style. Next week we will add this skill when we make a Didgeridoo. * All children will need a tube for next week, either a wrapping paper, cling film, tin foil or kitchen roll tube (Not a Loo roll). Please name and give to Miss woodend, who will keep them safe until next lesson.
Year three are doing printmaking for this half term and will be completing different style of prints. We responded to a story of my coach trip to the Alps, using only the items provided, we then had to recreate the story in print. After we had to retell the story to someone else, showing the parts within the picture.
Year four have Design Technology instead of Art this half term, we are looking at the pneumatic system. We learned all about what it means and that we design and make a moving tipper truck toy with a lifting tipper, powered by a pneumatic system. We used a balloon to move a simple car base and next week we will be using syringes and tubing to test a pneumatic system further. * All children need a shoe box for next week’s lesson, this is for the body of the truck, I will provide all other parts, (unfortunately I can’t provide thirty shoe boxes). Please name them inside and bring to the Create room as soon as possible.
Year five are creating a statue in the style of the artist Alberto Giacometti in their new topic, 3D. We first had to learn about the proportions and sizing of drawing the human body. This was tricky to start with, but we all saw huge improvements as we drew again and again.
Year six have 3D as their new topic and will be sculpting a clay figure in the style of artist and sculpture Henry Moore. We refreshed our drawing of the human form and adapted the shapes inline with Henry Moore’s figures. Next week we will be creating our own version of ‘reclining woman’ from a solid piece of clay.
Art Club saw group three get to know each other as both KS1 and KS2 had a bald photo of themselves, they had to draw new hair, creating a weird and wonderful version of them selves.
Have a lovely weekend , let’s do it all again next week!
God bless
Mrs Curtis
