Our Journey to the Cross
This Wednesday saw the start of Lent, the receiving of ashes and thinking about the journey ahead over the next few weeks. We celebrated such a beautiful mass, full of contemplation. The children read beautifully and allowed us to reflect on what the coming weeks will bring.
As part of our alms giving we will be collecting money for CAFOD and within classes children will be challenged to do ‘little acts of kindness’ at home generously sharing their time and love with their families. Each class will be setting weekly challenges hoping that each child can contribute to the class collections. I’m sure there are many suggestions you can give them to help family with jobs and duties in exchange for small donations.
Our Easter egg raffle will also take place this term and once again all money raised will go to supporting the inspirational work which is carried out at Brian House in Blackpool. We will begin our collection of eggs on March the 23rd. Over the past few years you have been so generous with your donations and I thank you in advance. The children always enjoy the excitement and anticipation of the raffle!
What is life without learning…
I know that I regularly say it, but we could not have been prouder of the children this week as our attention turned to the impending SATs tests in May (we are now allowed to say that word). However, we have decided to become the Secret Agent Training Squad instead. The children opened that first paper, took a huge breath and tackled the questions in such a positive way. I am sure they are really proud of themselves. As always, our attention now turns to feedback and what we do with the information that we are given. The children will receive feedback on their English papers on Monday and Tuesday. This will give them the areas that they need to revise further ready for the next set of papers. I really look forward to sharing this all with you on parents day too.
Next week, Monday morning and Tuesday morning, we will be having a go at the first set of maths papers. The children know what they need to do in order to revise. Please encourage this at home.
Remember that these tests are important but also a snap shot of what they can do. The children will be ready to tackle these papers confidently in May - we are just at the beginning of our preparation.
The Taming of the Shrew
Next Thursday, we will be going to The Grand Theatre to watch The Taming of the Shrew. This production will feature our Year 5 children - we cannot wait. The cost of the trip is £11 and you can pay via Parent Pay.
Learning Awards
We have adopted a shared and paired learning approach in class this week. This is important to share knowledge and ideas to support each other. Three children conducted themselves in such a loving and supportive way. Thank you to Jessica, Mati and Lucinda who were all cooperative Roger Robins this week.
Reminders:
Netball and Football fixtures start next week - pray for good weather.
Lenten contributions - what is your act of kindness.
Book Fair - this will take place next Thursday, Friday and the following Monday in the school hall. We celebrate World Book Day every other year so will be enjoying the beauty of books in class this year.
Have a lovely weekend with your family.
