Happy Wednesday! How did yesterday’s learning go? Which challenge did you enjoy the most? Is there anything we can help you understand better?
Today is Wednesday, so there is some Science further down the page that Mrs Nel would like you to have a go at. I have just been speaking to her and she says a big hello and she misses you all.
Reading
What happened on the last page of your book? Did it leave you on a cliffhanger? I always find that so interesting, and I often find myself reading more than I had planned as I can’t wait to find out what happens next. The sign of a good book is that you never want to put it down. When did you last quiz on a book? Maybe it’s time to get stuck into a book and then show what you know! Hooray!!!! Well done - I have just reset reading targets for Amber, Jayden and Stephanie. You had all gone past the 100% target and are reading really well. Keep up the good work.
Maths
Here are the answers to yesterday’s learning.
How did you get on? Now try today’s learning.
English
Read through again what you have written for Chapters 1 and 2. Today we are going to write our own Chapter 3 so re-read Chapter 3 from the story.
You are going to use the chapter above to help you to write, but again you are going to make it your own. Look carefully at how the author has used description and powerful verbs. Look at how they have added adverbs and a little speech. Using the same sort of plan as the author in the story you are going to write your own Chapter 3.
Think carefully about how you are going to write this middle part of the story. What is the upstairs room like? It doesn’t have to be empty with just a wardrobe in it like in the story. It might be cluttered and untidy. You choose!
Describe what the children find and where they find it.
How are they feeling? How will the reader know this? Can you use inferred meaning? (Check how the author does this)
What do they say to each other? How do they say it? Remember to add an action to explain in more detail. What happens to the children when the door closes?
Think about the best words to choose for the best impact. Remember to think carefully about the verbs that you use - select really powerful ones to add to the impact of your story. You want to create excitement and suspense in your chapter.
What happens to them when the door slams shut? How are they feeling? What do they do?
Again think carefully about the adjectives and verbs that you choose. Make sure that they are powerful ones. Make sure that you create a really clear picture for the reader.
When you write the last part of this chapter, make sure that you leave the reader on a cliff hanger. Make it exciting and full of suspense.
Make sure that your handwriting is really neat and clear and is joined up please. Think carefully about your spelling and remember to use punctuation.
When you have finished your chapter 3, read it through carefully to make sure that it makes sense.
Happy writing!!
Science
Mrs Nel is really excited about your science work. She loved your flower pictures from last week and this week she wants you to continue in the garden.
This week she would like you to be bug detectives. She would like you to think about all the little creatures that you see in the garden. Where can you find them? What do they look like? What do you know about them? Go and have a look.
Remember to be careful not to hurt them or destroy their habitats. Remember to wash your hands carefully afterwards.
See how many different types of insects/minibeasts you can find in the garden.
Look carefully at their habitats and what the insects can do.
Do you know what they are called? How many can you see? Can you draw them? What can you find out about them and their habitats?
Make yourself a simple fact file of the insects that your have found. Have a look in books or on the internet to help you to make your fact file.
Happy bug hunting!
