Together is a wonderful place to be.

The sun has been shining this week and so have the little rays of sunshine in the Year 1 classroom.

How have we grown our brains this week?

In Maths we have been practising counting forwards and backwards within 10. We have also been exploring one more and one less than a number. Children have been explaining their thinking using the STEM sentences, 7 is one more than 6 and 7 is one less than 8. I wonder if you can challenge the children to tell you what is one more and less, than a given number (within 10).

In English we have discovered some poor vegetables! Mrs Carrot, had been stuck to a conveyor belt with plasters; Mr Cucumber who had been wrapped in toilet roll and Mr Broccoli, whose face had been drawn on! The children stepped through a magic mirror and became the vegetable victims. They explained their ordeal using and, then wrote down their accounts, using capital letters for their names.

In RHE we have thought about friendship and how we work better together. We reflected on how we have worked together as a community, even though we’ve been apart during CVD-19 e.g. staying at home and all washing our hands. We shared the story of Stone Soup together and the children reflected deeply on the story. Why don’t you watch it again together? You can do so by clicking on the image below. Together, the children made a huge piece of artwork. The children each had one part of the picture, which on its own, wasn’t very exciting. But, altogether it made a huge happy picture. We really are better together.

I am so happy to announce our Year 1 Class Councillors. Huge congratulations to these two!

In Science we labelled the different parts of our body and even sounded out the body parts using our phonics knowledge. The children then did their own scientific diagram, by labeling their own body parts on a photo of themselves.

Details of this weeks home learning can be found on the Learning from home page.

Hip-Hip-Hooray!

Certificates

Focused Cooper Crab - For being a focused learner and listener. Teddy, this week you have worked your socks off to get all of your learning done and have been so engaged during class discussions. Thank you so much for helping me with the tens frames during maths and a huge well done for making 100 out of them. How impressive! Well done Teddy, you are a superstar!

Curious Clara Clownfish - For being such an inquisitive learner! Elsa, you have been so curious during our learning this week and have learnt lots of new words. I was so impressed that you remembered the names of your different body parts and could point to the right sound during Read Write Inc. I am so happy you have joined our class Elsa!

Star of the Day

Each day I will pick a star of the day. The star of the day is someone who has been a role model throughout the day. As only one child is chosen each day, it is a huge achievement and the child should be super proud of themselves. This weeks stars have been: William, Hugo, Rory, Rose and Gus.

Notices

  • Please ensure children bring a labelled water bottle every day and that all clothes are labelled. There are still children with unlabeled clothes and water bottles. Please, please, label them over the weekend.

  • Children now have access to snacks everyday, so there is no need for them to bring in their own. Thank you for supporting us with this!

  • If your child has a cold, please can they bring in a pack of their own tissues.

  • Please check your emails for a medical form to fill in. It will only take you 2 minutes and is very much appreciated. If you have not done so, please do so as a matter of urgency.

Have a wonderful weekend and God Bless,

Miss Lane, Mrs Kaur, Mrs Malley and Mrs Carter
