Remembrance Day is such a poignant day in the year, it is always important to mark it with reflection and thought. Yesterday, after watching a video of what Remembrance Day means, we headed outside into our beautiful grounds to make remembrance memorials. The children worked in teams to gather resources from our natural world. I think you will agree that what they created is just stunning.
Loving Learning
This week we have said goodbye to our first novel, The Nowhere Emporium. I couldn’t get through the final chapter without shedding a tear. This book has been incredibly powerful. Through it, the children have understood author intent, character interaction and the notion that anything could be possible. I am looking forward to starting the next novel, The Boy at the Back of the Class, next week.
Maths has been all about fractions, history was the ups and downs of Catherine of Aragon’s reign and in RE we started our work on justice.
We also started our Kidsafe lessons. Session 1 helped us all to identify how we feel when we are sad, anxious or worried. It was an incredibly powerful lesson that involved a lot of discussion and listening. Please click on the button below to read about what session 1 contained.
An area of the curriculum that I really love teaching is computing. Computer science gives the children so many skills: resilience, determination, creativity and problem-solving to name just a few. Yesterday we started coding, trying to enable the fish on the screen to move using specific algorithms.
Leading Learners
Well done to Georgia and James this week.
Georgia, you always strive to be the very best version of yourself. You are kind and caring - such a support to other members of the class. Your confidence has increased throughout the year. It is lovely to see you contributing to so many lessons.
James, you have become such a reflective learner. You are determined to meet your targets and to show just what you can do. You have also increased how much you contribute to lessons. It has been lovely to hear your thoughts and reflections.

Some Year 6 News
This morning, I have shared the news with the class that myself and my husband are expecting our second baby in May. The children were incredibly sweet and very happy for us, I had a few tears in my eyes. I explained to them that I would be starting my maternity leave following the May half term and that although I would not be around as much as I would like in the final half term, nothing will change for them in terms of their end of Year 6 experience. I am sure that I will still be popping in to make sure they are all on task and to see what they are getting up to. The children asked me lots of questions that I am sure they will share with you at home. My priority, as always, is that your children have a wonderful end to their Year 6 and Our Lady journey, and that they transition carefully onto their high schools. I will oversee all of this and ensure that this happens. If anybody does have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Year 6 looking beyond themselves
Our RE unit of work this half term is justice. As part of our work, we are looking at the current crisis regarding refugees. Mary, Joseph and Jesus were too refugees, They were displaced from their home for fear of being hurt. The children have decided that they would like to collect clothes for the Afghan Refugees within our community as a gift this Christmas. If you have any clothes that no longer fit, and you feel they can be donated, please send them into school in a carrier bag and we will collate them. What a kind gesture from an incredible group of young people.
Have a wonderful weekend with your families.
