On Wednesday, the class ventured down to church to celebrate mass and record their lines for the Christmas Concert. As I sat there listening to the children, I could not help but smile. The words that they said and how they spoke with such emotion, filled me with hope. This group of children are the future and our hope - I think we are in really good hands. Father Peter also spoke about Mary during the gospel. It was the feast of the immaculate conception so we were reminded of the enormous task that Mary was given. No questions asked, she just said yes. We have talked about how we can say yes to God’s will this Advent.
Where has our learning taken us this week?
We have had a lovely week in class. Full of hard work, enthusiasm, laughs - and we even managed to watch the Dr Who episode where the doctor met Rosa Parks. Victor started a round of applause afterwards as the enormity of what she had accomplished came to light. It was such a lovely way to finish the week.
English - Today the children have finished their Outcome 2 biographies on either Rosa Parks or Harriet Tubman. Because of the excellent homework produced, the children had such a wealth of knowledge about these two women. I am looking forward to marking them all over the Christmas holidays.
Maths - Multiplying fractions by a whole number and then dividing fractions. Something very peculiar happens when we divide fractions.
History - We analysed Henry’s reign and decided if he had been a successful king or an unsuccessful king. We then moved onto Elizabeth - a fierce woman who achieved so much. The homework this week is all about the Armada. The children will need that for next week.
PE - Basketball in invasion games. We braved the elements on Monday to have a go at the skills associated with the game.
Kidsafe
This week we discussed our bodies and how some parts of our bodies are private parts. The children discussed how they felt and in what type of situations they have felt uncomfortable. We also discussed secrets, secrets we can keep and ones that we need to share.
Leading Learners
Well done to Ava and Clayton this week.
Ava and Clayton, you have led our class beautifully this term. There has not been a day where you have not come in and spoke with kindness, compassion and enthusiasm. Thank you for being the role models that you are and for putting others first.
Dates for your diary:
Thursday 16th December - Christmas party day and Christmas dinner. The children can bring in one drink (nothing fizzy) and one snack (chocolate bar or crisps) for the party.
Friday 17th December - School finishes for Christmas at 2pm and 2.10pm and reopens on Tuesday 4th January.
Have a wonderful weekend with your families.
