“A wise person is like a smoothly polished rock: it takes time to become either.”

Dear parents,

Before I review the week I need to share with you the HRSE lesson we completed this week. Over past few lessons we have explored peer pressure. This pressure does not only come from our friends at times but from adults too. The children have become aware of how complex and subtle pressure can be. Then today we explored consent - we understand this to mean “to give permission” and have “bodily autonomy”. If someone doesn’t want to be to hugged or tickled - we respect them and accept their decision. We also explored how a person doesn’t have to give us an explanation as to why they say “no” that is their right and we have a responsibility to respect it. We watched the video below which also mentions the things children cannot give their consent to because they are children. This film includes the words sexual consent - I explained this as permission to kiss and hug in a loving relationship (husbands and wife). This led to short discussion to about the language of boyfriend and girlfriend and the children explained how this involves unwanted pressure. (sometimes from adults who think it’s cute - the children don’t agree). The children want healthy and happy relationships with all their peers- friendships that feel free and respectful - no pressure.

We have read a few chapters of our new class novel, explored the Old Testament and worked hard at maths subtraction! In computing we’re becoming more computer literate - finding out what is possible and in geography we learned all about erosion and transportation is a very practical way (using sugar cubes). The children have loved writing the RAP in music and today as promised I’ve uploaded our performance for you to enjoy! Swimming and netball featured large too and helped us to get out when the weather kept us in! We never stop learning - even though we are close to the end of term - learning fills our days with wonder - may they continue!

Have a lovely weekend - oh yes - loved the socks! I think stripy socks should be part of the uniform they just make you smile!!
