It’s like we have never been any different, the children have slipped back seamlessly into school life and it is so good to be back to some sort of normality.
In Art…
Year one listened and responded to a super cute story about a boy with mysterious spots on his tummy, we painted this in primary colours to make a bold and bright painting. Our brush work is coming along nicely.
Year two heard the story of Wilberforce the frog. Using primary colours they had to draw in paint all the stepping stone across the marshland, allowing the little frog to get home.
Year three looked at the artist Vincent Van Gogh and his painting Starry Night. We looked at the strong linear aspects of his painting, we then has a go at recreating the sky using his technique, mixing shades of blue paint.
Year four painted white fabric with dye, using a pipette, the primary colours in dye, everyone created a stunning dyed canvas ready for the next session. While waiting for our go at the dying station we caught up and refreshed on our observational drawing skills, looking at natural items such as feathers and leaves.
Year five took a look at the bold, colourful art of the Fauvist painters, Matisse and Derain. Using miniature chairs we drew them from different angles and made a larger drawing in our sketch books. Using oil pastels we used three shades from the same colour family and blended them to make the chair really pop!
Year six studied the art work of artist Patrick Caulfield and the bold, flat, block colouring he used, these were then outlined with black, to make visually stunning art pieces.
The Home Gallery is now up and running again and two young artists have already submitted some artwork, do take look and if you have been busy with creativity and would like to share with the rest of the school, send me a photo or two to r.curtis@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk and I will add them to the gallery.
Have a lovely weekend, the days are longer which is a plus, hopefully a little sunshine too.
Stay safe
God bless
