We made it. After only three weeks of rehearsal, my amazing Year 6 cast took to the stage to perform their version of The Wizard of Oz. Yes, it was a little different to other years: we didn’t have an audience, we didn’t have Year 5 supporting us as cast and we filmed it in scenes - but my, what a job we did. Our film producer is now busy putting the film together ready for our school premiere next Thursday. Thank you for getting all of your orders in so promptly. As soon as I receive anything, I will make sure that it comes home so that you can enjoy what your wonderful children have put together.
Starting strong is good, but finishing strong is epic!
And so we have reached our final week in school together. We are continuously praying that nothing happens to our bubble and we get to see out the week together. I know that we are all being extremely mindful.
It has been my absolute mission to make sure that the children have some kind of normality this final term and I think we have achieved it. As we move into the final week, it is all about finishing everything with a bang.
On Wednesday, it will be lovely to meet in church to celebrate the journey that your child has had through school. When you arrive in church, there will be someone at the back to sign you in and then show you to where you will be sat. The children will be sat at the front of the church as a class, you will then have a space to sit in your household bubble. I will be setting this out alphabetically in church. After Holy Communion and Mass, the children will then leave church and walk back to school. I will email you further guidance next week.
On Thursday, the children can bring in their spare white polo shirt for signing. They will be left in school on Thursday night so that the staff can sign them after school. The rest of the class will then sign them on Friday. We will also be having the talent show and the premiere of The Wizard of Oz.
The final day is all about celebration. We will be celebrating together in the morning and signing t-shirts, having a picnic lunch outside and then saying our goodbyes…for now. I know how important this moment is for you all and seeing your child out of school on their final day is a special moment. On Friday, all of the Year 6 class will leave school together at 1.15pm. This will give you an opportunity as parents to meet your child on the playground as they come out of class. Once the rest of the school has left, I will reopen the gates on Kenilworth Road and you can come and stand on the playground. Please remain socially distanced from other households. If your child is choosing to walk on that day, they will be allowed to leave school at 1.15pm.
PE kits are needed on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday next week. Full school uniform on Wednesday and Friday for the Leavers’ Mass and final day.
Over the weekend, please can you have a look at home to see if there is anything that belongs to school and needs to be returned.
Library books, football kits, netball skirts, laptops that have been borrowed. Please can these be returned next week.
Your child has an awful lot of books to bring home next week. Please can they bring a carrier bag each day? We will make sure that they come home in small amounts rather than all at once.
Making your Holy Communion is such a special time and our very own angel made her Holy Communion last Saturday.
We send you all our prayers and best wishes.
Thank you
Next week will so busy and with the emotions that the last week brings, now is the right time for me to thank you. This year has not been easy for any of us and how you have all managed home learning, staggered times and the demands of Year 6 under the pressure of Year 6 is to be celebrated. Throughout all of this you have communicated with me, smiled each morning and evening and supported your children fully. I cannot thank you enough, you have made my job so much easier.
As I sat down to write your children’s reports, I really wanted you to know just what they have achieved this year. Their level of attainment of each child, the resilience that they have shown and the independence that they have found is a credit to their hard work, dedication and the expectations that they have constantly set themselves. More than any of that, they have had fun, developed their friendships and have flown. When their reports come out on Monday, please read your child’s reflection of the year. That section in particular brought many a tear to my eye.
Your children have been such a joy to teach and I have loved every minute of it. I wanted them to experience Year 6 fully and although some it has been missed, we really have given it our best shot. Not doing this would have been a disservice to them. I am so excited for them to head off to their respective high schools and show them just what they can do.
This class will always hold a very special place in my heart because of what they have taught me this year. They have constantly demonstrated our mission statement and have kept Christ at the center of their words and actions.
In the words of Dorothy, ‘I feel like I have known you all for a long time.’ Having taught a lot of your families and for some, our first meeting this year, thank you for your constant support. Your children are remarkable because of you.
Enjoy the weekend with your family - I know the England match is at the center of it all! Please be safe, we really want to make it to next Friday together. Let’s get the children there with no bubble closures.
In our class sweepstake, we are down to the final two! Who will be victorious come 10pm on Sunday night.
Have a wonderful weekend with your family in the sunshine.
