"Let today be the start of something new!"

We have had such a beautiful start to our Year 2 journey together over the past two days! It has been wonderful getting to know each and every one of your delightful children and I can’t wait to get to know them more as the year unfolds. The children have fit seamlessly into their new classroom; it somehow feels like they’ve always been here. The way they came into the class this morning and knew exactly what to do and where to go, even after only one day, was amazing to see! Already I can see that they are certainly a class of independent learners!

Over the past two days, we have focused heavily on our relationships and health education. The children have asked questions, got to know their new surroundings and have thought really carefully about their expectations as a Year 2; the oldest in the infants! Each child has set a target which they would like to achieve by the end of the year. We also read a thought provoking story together called ‘The Invisible Boy’, which got us all thinking carefully about the importance of team work and being kind to one another. We had great fun playing team games in small groups and it was tremendous to hear such kind words being spoken to each other.

Somehow, we have also managed to fit in a little number work in maths and some sound work in English! My goodness, what a busy few days!

Notices

Could I ask anyone who has not completed their online consent and medical forms to do so by the end of the weekend please. Then we will know who picks your child up, we will be aware of needs and will be able to put pictures on the website of classroom life.

  • Please have a read through the guidance for this term - which is on the Discover area of the website under ‘Keeping Safe.’

  • Please could any children with asthma bring in up to date inhalers labelled clearly with their name to keep in their trays.

  • Homework has been set on the Home learning section to be handed in on Thursday.

  • Please could all children bring an old adults t-shirt into school on Monday to be used as their art t-shirt.

  • PE days - 15 children will have indoor PE on a Monday and 15 children will have it on a Tuesday. Please see the list below. Outdoor PE takes place on Wednesdays. Please can you ensure that your child is either wearing or has got with them their PE kits on these days. Shorts are needed for indoor PE.

  • Children can bring up to two healthy snacks to school each day which will help to keep the hunger at bay until our lunch time at 1pm. Each child can also receive at least one fruit snack from school.

  • Next week the children will be completing their Accelerated Reader assessment so that we are able to give reading books at the right reading level for them. The quizzing and changing of books is done independently in Year 2. There will be allocated reading time during each day where the children can read, quiz and change their books if needed. I encourage the children to read shorter books at least three times before quizzing. Children on longer books are encouraged to read through them carefully and quiz when they feel ready. I discourage children from changing a book that was only chosen the previous day. Reading should take place for at least 20 minutes a day at home which is included in home learning each week.
