Art News… Week One
Happy New Year to you all. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and time with your families. Everyone came back to school with a smile from ear to ear, eager to tell about their festive time and what Father Christmas was kind to deliver.
In Art…
Reception Was given a small ball of clay, cold and wet and for many the first time using clay. We rolled, pinched, squashed and shaped the clay before deciding what we could make. Everyone made just what they thought they could make with it and had such fun doing so.
Year one ventured outside to create some art in nature. We used sticks, leaves and stones to make faces on the trees and walls, we used clay to stick them together. These look amazing and will wash away with the weather.
Year two and three didn’t have art this week due to the bank holiday but will catch up next week.
Year four started their design technology topic this half term and will be creating a lovely money container in ther shape of a coin purse. This week we looked at different money containers, what was the purpose, what were they made of and who would use them. (Thank you to those who brought in a purse or walllet). Next week we move on to threding a needle and simple stiches.
Year five started their Painting topic by looking at the impressive work of the artist Chris Ofilli. We were rather amused by the odd addition to his paintings (do ask). This will be ove rtwo weeks and we started by painting our self portrait in his style, Next week we will overpaint using an acetate layer.
Year six started their 3D topic but had to catch up on our drawing of the human body skills first. Using a new method than last years skeletons from space art by Giacommetti, we drew bodies laying down ready for our Henry Moore inspired sculptures in clay next week.
Art Club starts next week and the children in group three have now been told and I can’t wait to welcome them next Tuesday. More information is on the art club/home gallery page.
Have a great weekend, stay safe.
God bless
Mrs Curtis
