Year 6 Weekly Blog - "No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted."

Kindness doesn’t cost anything, it is something that we can all give and it makes our world a better place. This week, in our council meeting we shared the acts kindness we have seen within our class and celebrated those children. Another one of the Kingdom of God values. Seeing little acts of kindness around the classroom and on the playground throughout the week has been really lovely.

Last week we kicked of the school assemblies with our wonderful example of true leadership and how those little acts of kindness can change the world. This week we were treated to Year 2’s take on how to be a good role model, what a great start to the term… the top of the juniors and the top of the infants leading the way for the rest of the school. Here was our song, which the children sang so beautifully…

Year 6 have been doing some wonderful learning this week. Our class novel ‘The Nowhere Emporium’ is in full swing. We have explored the characters this week in detail, looking at their main characteristics and how they are brought to life through blended action, dialogue and description. The children then had a go at innovating and improving a paragraph, adding this blend to create their own piece of writing- I can’t wait to mark them, they took such great care and concentration when working on this.

We are working so hard on our Mathematics, to understand and reason when multiplying fractions. In PE this week we have been retrieving our Year 5 knowledge of counter-tension and counter-balances, working with partners to explore these different balances. In Geography we have looked at different climates of South America and in Science Mrs Nel has been exploring circuits with different components with them. What a busy week of learning we have had!

Also, this week, we started our Kidsafe programme  - A Series of lessons which teach children about keeping themselves safe.

This week, we focused on trust and completed a trust building exercise. We also thought about the Feelings we get when we are feeling sad, scared and/or worried and how we more listen to what our body is telling us. Please read the letter below, explaining this approach and the first lesson in more detail.

Leading Learners

Well done to Hollie-Rose and Saul this week.

Hollie-Rose, you have thoroughly got involved in learning this week and pushed yourself to be better each day. You constantly listen to feedback, reflect on it and then strive to be the best version of yourself. Thank you for your efforts.

Saul, you have really took responsibility and ownership of your learning this week. We have been so impressed with your maturity towards your work, how you reflect and listen to advice. Keep being focused and striving to improve Saul, this is a vital skill to have to make the progress you deserve.

Kind and compassionate butterflies

We have been on the look out for acts of kindness and compassion this week. Pure love and kindness has been shown in abundance this week. It definitely makes our classroom a happier and a richer place for it. Thank you to Julia, Jacob O and Kai. There have been so many times this week when you have gone out of your way to help someone in class. Thank you for all that you do!
