"For good ideas and true innovation, you need human interaction, conflict, argument, debate." Margaret Heffernan

We have been writing discussion text this week and it is clear that we have lots of differing opinions (healthy!). The children have written an extended piece on the subject: “Should Primary school children learn Shakespeare?” It was clear that the children love Shakespeare so arguing against it was tough. Alongside this work, we have explored adverbs of possibility using them in our writing. In maths we have continued with word problems that involve both long division and long multiplication. It has been great to see children grappling with problems. One of our learning characters is Sadie spider of course- and maths demands a lot of determination and resilience- keep it up Year 5. On that note a special well done to Esme, Holly and John Joseph for getting their 420 TT Rockstar target!! In Geography we have completed more work on the worlds “Natural Resources” - discovering facts about Ukraine in our studies. In science Mrs Nel and I stood back as the children completed experiments they planned earlier. We know how to change the rate of dissolving - making clear and precise conclusions. On Monday our interactive board “popped” and refused to turn on - so on Thursday we were delighted when a replacement arrived - I was glad I had a large flipchart! We managed to complete gym sessions on Monday and Tuesday- they were great. All in all a week a of writing and preparing for our debates - next Monday.

Queen’s jubilee picnic

Just a little reminder that on June 8th we are celebrating in style with a Red White and Blue Day. At lunch time we will enjoy a whole school picnic outside on the field (let’s pray for a sunny day!). Jacqui, our school cook, has ordered special lunchboxes which will be filled with a picnic feast. If your child already has school lunches, you need to do nothing. However, if your child normally brings their own packed lunch, you can order a special picnic box by pressing here and completing a form. This must be paid for in advance on ParentPay at a cost of £2.35. Forms need to be completed by 8pm on Friday 13th May.

Have a lovely weekend - form the whole Year 5 team
