Year 3 Weekly blog 21.4.23 - "Spring adds new life and new joy to all that is."

What a lovely start to our summer term we have had. We welcomed the children back on Monday, sharing our Easter adventures! Some of us have been super busy and seemed to have crammed in SO many interesting activities, whereas some of us have taken a slower approach, spending time at home as a family and catching up on some all important, and much needed, rest! We have used our experiences over Easter within RE this week, reflecting back and writing diary entries as though we are one of Jesus’ disciples. The children have all written such beautiful diaries, demonstrating such fantastic effort. Well done all!

We jumped straight into learning, this week focusing our maths towards measuring. We have looked closely at both m and cm, and have now become confident in converting measures between the two. In English we have introduced a new story, The Greenling by Levi Pinfold. We used our Book Talk to raise questions based on images from the text. After reading the story, we then looked carefully at the two main characters, the very caring gentleman, and the rather mean, selfish woman. Again, we created questions for these characters and had a great time hot seating as the man and woman to answer some of our questions. Next week we will be story mapping this book, as we gear up to write our own story based on The Greenling. In Maths we have also been looking at non-unit fractions; a fraction with a numerator greater than one. The children have been writing them as words e.g. four-sixths and they are buzzing to write them as notations next week! In History the children used clues to draw a Roman town. They labelled the key features and discussed how Celtic life changed when the Romans settled. I wonder what we will spot at the Roman remains at Ribchester?

On Friday a team from Life Education came into class and the children got to learn all about the brain. The children were so curious and asked so many intriguing questions.

Certificates

Teddy, you have been a curious learner this week. You asked fantastic questions when drawing a Roman town and thought deeply about the clues you had found. You were so focused and worked brilliantly with your learning partner too. We are so proud of you Teddy and we can’t wait to take you to the Roman Museum next week!

John Paul, you have been such a focused learner this week. You thought deeply about your diary entry for RE and reflected on how it felt to be Peter during Holy Week. You have really challenged your self in Maths lessons too and worked so hard on your Roman map. Well done John Paul! Keep up this brilliant concentration!

Reminders

  • Friday 28th April - Trip to Ribchester Roman museum. We will be back in time for normal pick up. Children should wear their school uniform with appropriate footwear for exploring the Roman remains and a waterproof coat. All children will need a packed lunch on this day. If you would like your child to have a packed lunch made at school, we will take their order on Monday. Fingers crossed for sunshine!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Miss Bassett & Mrs Marshall
