‘No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.’

What does it mean to be kind? This week in Year One we have read the story, Be Kind, and have thought deeply about how we can be the kindest versions of ourselves. We have learned that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a big impact on those around us and that we can all make a difference to someone’s day. In our Pot of Kindness, we collected 20 pom-poms this week, for thoughtful and loving acts. I have challenged the children to earn 30 pom-poms as a class, by next Friday, I have no doubt that they can achieve this!

What have we been learning this week?

In Maths this week, the children have been ordering groups of objects and numbers. They used number lines to do this and their knowledge of one more and one less.

In English we have been learning the story of Supertato, off by heart, using a story map. Each day the children have written the next part of the story. Below is the story map, I wonder if they can perform what they have learned so far to you!

In RE we have been learning about Noah and the Flood. The children came up with lots of curious questions to ask Noah. They couldn’t believe it when he stopped by to give us some answers.

Hip-Hip-Hooray!

Certificates

Co-operative Roger Robin: For being a considerate learning partner. Bea, you have been so supportive of your class friends this week and worked beautifully in a group during Science. Thank you for being such a positive role model in our class Bea and for making it such a happy place to learn and grow together.

Reflective Lizzie Ladybird: For challenging yourself with your reading. Lucia, you are so determined to fill your brilliant brain with words, from the books you read. I have been so impressed with how much you want to improve your reading and how much reading you are doing at home. You are a quizzing whiz and as you grow in confidence, so does your smile! Well done Lucia! !

Notices

  • Details of this weeks Home Learning can be found on the Home Learning Blog.

  • Next week we have Tempest in school taking individual photographs on Wednesday 13th October. Children should all wear their school uniform on this day, no PE kits.

  • Accelerated Reader - I kindly ask that children do not quiz at home unless they are self-isolating. In class, the children are monitored whilst they read the comprehension questions independently and only prompted on words they are unable to phonetically decode. Year 1 is a crucial year when reading skills come together, so it’s really important I can see what they can do in independently. Thank you so much for your help with this and for your continued support with their reading!

  • Borrowed clothes - Please can any clothes that have been borrowed by your child be returned. We have got very little underwear left and we began the year with plenty. If your child is prone to wet accidents, please can you ensure that they bring spares to keep on their peg at school and their own hygiene equipment (e.g. wipes and plastic bags). Thank you so much.

God Bless and have a lovely weekend,

Miss Lane and the Year 1 Team
