Wow! What fun we have had this week. The effort that went into costumes for World Book Day on Thursday was brilliant, thank you so much and despite the rain we had a lovely day filled with story telling, making bookmarks and illustrating characters (links on the buttons below).
We have been busy retelling the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and we hope you enjoy watching our video. We have all been writing a sentence about a part of the story this week. We are trying so hard to Fred each word and use all the sounds we know!
Shrove Tuesday brought lots of excitement to Reception this week, we talked about different toppings. As you can see most children’s favourite topping in Reception is chocolate spread! We had great fun flipping in ‘The Great Reception Pancake Race 2022’ We hope you enjoy watching all the fun we had in the video.
On Ash Wednesday we gathered with Year One and Two for a Lent service. It was wonderful for the children to see Father Peter and receive our ashes together as a community. The children were very calm and respectful and enjoyed a moment of stillness to think about the start of our journey with Jesus.
Let’s Celebrate
Edward is a Enthusiastic Bobby Bee - For spreading your enthusiasm wonderfully around the class! We are so impressed with your attitude towards getting the job done and being helpful in the classroom this week. Well done Edward!
Isla is a Focused Cooper Crab - For being incredible focused during Read Write Inc and writing great sentences using your own imaginative ideas. You have been determined to bring this focus and concentration into the classroom too, especially during choosing time. Well done Isla!
Important notices
Parent Meetings - I look forward to talking to those of you with parent meeting appointments on Wednesday. Please be prompt so we can make the most of our ten minutes together.
Lent Almsgiving - After much thought we have decided that our almsgiving through Lent will focus on CAFOD’s Walk Against Hunger and we will be praying for all those around the world who are in desperate need. The children will be asking you to sponsor them as each class tries to walk at least 200K (125 miles!) over the next five weeks in our lead up to Holy Week in school. You can do this by donating on ParentPay which will be live from today. If every family donates at least £5 in sponsorship we should be able to head towards that magical £1000 for this very worthy cause. In the past a few families have collected Lenten alms with wider family and friends and passed on the donation to our chosen charity so we will put this item on ParentPay showing a range for the amount to be donated but there are no expectations and all donations are gratefully received. Below are some of the items and support which CAFOD is hoping to provide:
£12 can buy ingredients to make a highly nutritious sesame seed paste so a new mum can help her malnourished child grow big and strong
£20 can fund expert nutrition and healthcare classes for new mums and dads in rural communities
£200 can feed ten malnourished children sesame paste for a week, helping them grow big and strong
£500 can provide an entire community with pepper seeds for planting season
£600 can help local experts deliver a highly effective door-to-door campaign in rural communities, training people in proper sanitation, hygiene and nutrition
In Reception we have decided that each day we will walk a lap of the field to warm up and then take part in different team relays. We have lots of great ideas so far, teddy relay, egg and spoon, line dance and balloon relay!
Have a wonderful weekend and keeeeeep reading!
