Homework set early this week. If you are at home you can be doing this in the next 3 days. More home learning will be set for you tonight. Enjoy!

Maths

7x table. As last week you can use the sheet given to practise. Look for patterns eg Are the answers odd or even?

Try learning Percy Parker’s 7 x table song below:

There is also a link to a site where you can practise all your times tables learned so far. Do a little bit often!

English

Please complete the Purple mash grammar 2 do’s ‘Day out’ and ‘Harry’s Party.’

Don’t forget to learn your spellings too. Can you write a short paragraph including all your spelling words to show you understand what they mean?

Homework to be handed in on Thursday 12th March 2020

Maths

This week, we have been learning our 9 x table. First we noticed that we add 10 and take away 1 each time. This makes lots of patterns in the 9x table. Please write in your homework book the multiples of 9 going down your page - then explain the patterns you spot to your grown ups. Write a written explanation of this.

Then use the sheet given, ‘Practising the 9x table’ to learn the facts through playing a game - follow the instructions on the sheet.

Finally, keep practising each day - with quick- fire questions eg 7x9 3x9 until you know it off by heart.

Assembly Parts

Our assembly will be about ‘The Garden of Gethsemane,’ on Wednesday 1st April. Please learn your assembly parts for next week. Some of you have a song to learn instead:

English

The Anglo-Saxons loved to share Riddles and Kennings - (both different types of poetry) with each other. We have learnt in class how to write a Kenning. For your homework, please write 2 Kennings. One about yourself (see sheet for help to plan this) and another about anything for me to guess! It could be a type of animal, an item of clothing, a sport - anything - but please give me lots of clues! Go to the ‘Help your child’ section for an information poster and a teaching powerpoint about kennings to refresh your memory.

RE—As part of my teacher worship this week we discussed how we could help try to combat loneliness in our community, the children came up with some lovely ideas. One of their ideas was to make cards for people who may be lonely and to give these out, I loved this suggestion and Father Peter has very kindly said that we can have a box of them placed at the back of church. Please can each child make at least one card to go in the box (feel free to make more), bring them into school by Thursday and I will pass them on to Father Peter. Make them bright and colourful please children. Inside you could write something like this

To the reader of this card

Remember you are not alone, Jesus is in your heart.

Love the Year 4 children at Our Lady Star Star of the Sea (We are not adding names to keep our children safe).

Spellings— Please continue to practise the spellings given on 3.2.2020 for the spelling quiz on 10.2.2020.

Spellings given out on 3.2.2020 to be quizzed on 10.2.2020

The children thought of loads of great, fun ways to learn their spellings on Friday. Please ask them which way they would like to try (the nerf gun spelling quiz where you get blasted if you are too slow was not my idea! Mine were more sedate like flour on a baking tray and water and a paintbrush outside on garden flags, so please don’t hold me accountable for any Nerf gun related injuries! )

Ask someone to quiz you on them and write a comment on how you are getting on. Perhaps children you could quiz a grown up or even get the whole family involved, why not set a prize? Breakfast in bed for the winner or they get to choose a film for film night!
