This week has been filled with more busy learning.

The children have been reading lots again this week and trying hard to reach their target before the end of term. As you will see we have been able to celebrate this with quite a few children again and I know that there are others who are so close to reaching theirs. Keep up the good work children.

In RHE, we have been continuing our work all about resilience and sharing strategies that will help us to become more resilient. Being a Sadie Spider is such an important characteristic to develop and the children are trying hard to develop this further. In maths we have been learning all about fractions.. Recall of multiplication facts has also continued and the children have been enjoying practising their tables facts on TT Rockstars. They are becoming more and more fluent and confident with these. Well done children. In English the children have written their own exciting adventure stories. These have been very exciting to read. Geography has seen the children journeying to the Arctic and learning all about the different animals that live there. In RE we have been thinking about the offertory and consecration during the Mass. We have thought about how we offer ourselves during the offertory and what happens at the consecration. We will be thinking about this further next week as we make links with the Last Supper and explore the Easter story. We have continued with our preparation for Reconciliation and the children enjoyed sharing their books with each other. (Please check on the home learning page to see which pages the children will need to do this week. Thank you.) We have also been working on our Easter video which we hope to share with you next Thursday, our last day of school.

I wonder how many more children we will be able to celebrate before the end of the term next week. Keep trying children and believe that you can do it.

This week we are celebrating Betsy and Georgia. Betsy you have tried so hard to manage your distractions this week and to make sure that you have been focused on your work. Well done Betsy, keep up the good work. Georgia you have been a really brave Tommy Turtle this week and have tried so hard with our fraction work in maths. It has been wonderful to see your hand up all the time and how happy you have been doing your maths this week. What a star—keep shining.

We are also celebrating Nicola who received Jacqui’s Marvellous Manners this week. Well done Nicola, lovely manners are always very much appreciated.

Year 3 Friday 19th March 2021 “Friends are the sunshine of life!” John Hay

We have been lucky this week with the weather. A little sunshine really puts a smile on everyone’s faces and sharing it with friends just makes that even better.

Again we have continued to be busy with our learning and showing how we are growing our brains and using our different learning characters. We had a lovely PE lesson this morning with lots of creative ideas from the children about balance and travelling. In RHE, we have been reminding ourselves about being resilient and thinking about strategies that will help us to become more resilient. We have been doing lots of writing this week. - another chance to be creative. In science we have continued to learn all about magnets and found out about how they attract and repel. In maths the children have been problem solving using their multiplication and division skills. Recall of multiplication facts is becoming much more fluent. Well done children—you have been doing a great job on TT Rockstars and improving all the time. More super work  about the Arctic during the geography session. In RE we have been learning about different parts of the Mass and we have also started our sessions about Reconciliation. All of this as well as making sure that we are being co-operative with each other and being enthusiastic too. Well done children - keep up the good work.

This week we are celebrating Daisy and Molly-Ann . Daisy you are always so enthusiastic in everything that you do. You are so bubbly and have a real desire to do well. You always have a smile and your energy and enthusiasm fill the classroom. What a star—keep shining. Molly-Ann you have been such a creative Kiki Chameleon with your writing this week. You really tried hard to think about everything that we discussed and put these things into your own writing.. Well done Keep up the good work.

Year 3 Friday 12th March 2021 “It’s time to be happy again!”

It was absolutely wonderful to welcome all of the children back to school again on Monday and we have had a lovely week being a whole class again. There has been lots of chatter and smiles but lots of work done too. It has been super to see how all of the children have grown, not only in height but in their learning too.

The children have been amazing at remembering the routines that we have in place and taking care to look after each other. They have also delighted us with their “I can..” attitudes and their enthusiasm. We know that with positivity like they have demonstrated this week, the rest of the term and year will be a great success. Well done children, we are so proud of you all.

We have been busy all week with our learning and have shared feelings about lockdown, celebrated how much the children have grown and learned during lockdown, continued to learn how to multiply and divide in maths, been writing our own adventure stories, started our science topic of magnets, practised our tables, spelling and handwriting, enjoyed PE lessons, worshiped together, looked at the virtues of love and compassion and thought about how we can demonstrate these, discovered more about the Arctic, been creative in art, enjoyed our massage and music lesson, done loads and loads of reading and taken a new Star reading quiz and loved just being back together again. We are happy again!!!

This week we are celebrating Anncia, Lily-Mae and Alex. Alex you have been so enthusiastic this week and really wanted to get involved with all of your learning. It has been lovely to see your smile and excitement at seeing all of your friends too. Keep up the good work Alex. Anncia you receive a Sadie Spider certificate because you are so enthusiastic and such a Sadie Spider. You keep on trying and trying and trying and not giving up, because of this you are learning so much. Well done. Lily Mae you receive a Lizzie Ladybird certificate because you keep trying and want to keep improving with your learning. You have also been such an enthusiastic Bobby Bee too. Keep up this wonderful work Lily-Mae.

• PE days have changed for some of the children too. Please see the lists below for the new grouping for outdoor PE (tracksuits and trainers needed please). All children will continue to have indoor PE on Friday (shorts needed please).

Tuesday PE lessons: Alex, Anncia, Christian, Connor Sean, Daisy, Edi, Georgia, Harvey, Iris, Jay, Lily-Mae, Molly-Ann, Ruby Lilly, Rosa, Stanley and Tabby.

• Please make sure that the children have their PE kits on both of their PE days. Just a reminder that ear-rings can NOT be worn for PE. Also, if ear rings are worn in school they must be small, simple stud ear rings - for safety reasons.

•  Children complete lunchtime PE activities with Mr. Nay on Tuesdays and Thursdays—some children may find it easier if they change into their trainers for the lunchtime session.

• The children have come home with World Book Day vouchers today.  Storyellers Inc are putting on a stall outside the shop on Saturdays 10-2 during March, so that children can redeem their vouchers.

Year 3 Friday 5th March 2021 “If you want others to be happy, practise compassion. If you want to be happy, practise compassion.” Dalai Lama

We have made it safely to the end of another week and the children have continued to work hard and grow their brains despite the continuing global pandemic. We are so excited to be welcoming all of the children back together again next week and we know that they will be both excited and a little nervous to be back in school on Monday. We know that this time has not been easy for anyone and we would just like to say a huge “thank you” to everyone for all of your support and dedication during the last couple of months. We really could not have managed without everything that you have done to help the children with their learning. We have loved receiving all of the photos, emails and the children’s work on Purple Mash and we know that when we are all back together again in school the children will continue to fly.

Next week is dedicated to welcoming the children back together again and to ensuring that they have time to reconnect with their friends and settle back into the school routine. We will be following the Jesuit virtues of Love and Compassion over the coming weeks and the children will be thinking of how they can show both of these to the people that they meet. This will also help us to grow in our relationship with Jesus as we begin our preparations for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. (See below for more details)

Throughout the week we will be reminding the children of all of the procedures that we will need to follow in school to keep everyone safe and making sure that we follow these and embed them into our routine again. Please make sure that you have read the very important parental and children’s advice which can be found on the main school blog and discussed this with your child. Please look at the guidance and information on the ‘Keeping Safe’ part of our website under ‘Discover’.

We hope that you all enjoyed the half term break. We are proud to say that everyone has been enthusiastic and ready to work again this week. What a lot of super work has been happening too.

We have started a new story in English this week and this is becoming very exciting. There has been lots of amazing ideas floating around about what might be going to happen. Well done everyone. There has been more wonderful multiplication in maths too. A special shout out to Max who managed to find all 12 of the solutions to the maths problem. Well done Max. We hope you enjoyed the great game of multiplication bingo on our Zoom meeting on Wednesday. Lots of learning points earned. The children are continuing to enjoy TT Rockstars and this is having an impact on recall of multiplication facts too.  If you have not tried this yet, don’t forget to follow the instructions for logging in that we posted on the remote learning page. Login details were sent via email. This week we have started our new topic in Geography, all about the Arctic. I know that the children have loved learning about all of the different countries in the Arctic and their flags. In RE this week we have started to look at the Mass and to see the connection between the Mass and the Last Supper. This topic will also help us with preparation for the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Great work this week everyone. We love seeing all of the work that you have been doing and we are so proud of you all. You are little stars shining brightly and we are so looking forward to having everyone back at school together very shortly. See if you can make next week an even better week. Keep trying and you will succeed. Be a Bobby Bee and complete all of your work with enthusiasm.

This week we are celebrating Lily-Mae and Franek who are shining brightly. Well done children you are doing such a fabulous job with your learning. Lily Mae gets an Enthusiastic Bobby Bee certificate for her bubbly enthusiasm and ‘have a go’ attitude. It is lovely to see you working so hard Lily Mae. Keep up the good work. You are being a little super star. Franek gets a Concentrating Cooper Crab certificate for all of his hard work this week, especially in maths. You have been so focused and completed some amazing work. Well done Franek. You have also been such an Enthusiastic Bobby Bee and a kind friend and a Co-operative Roger Robin as well this week. Hooray!! We have made it to the end of this first part of this term and what a team effort it has been. Well done children, you have worked your socks off again this week and you definitely deserve a rest next week.  Well done and thank you parents for all of your hard work and support—we really couldn’t have made it to the end of this half term without you. We really do appreciate all that you have been doing. You are doing an amazing job and deserve a well earned rest too. We hope that you will all be able to take some time to recharge your batteries.

What a busy week of learning we have had. Lots of grammar work in English this week and then we finished off today with descriptions of amazing confectionery for the Iron Man (a Library Service competition). More super multiplication in maths - the children have been really shining with their tables work and have been able to manipulate multiplication and division facts too. TT Rockstars is proving to be a great hit and the children are really enjoying practising their tables. If you have not tried this yet, don’t forget to follow the instructions for logging in that we posted on the remote learning page last week. Login details were sent via email. In science the children created branching data bases for sorting living things. This week we have also thought about Lent, which starts next week, and written our Lenten promises. Please do talk with your child about Lent and how they can grow to be closer to Jesus during this special time of the year. E safety day on Tuesday was a real success and the children were so engaged. We enjoyed a Zoom meeting, had fun with a Wooclap and also created some wonderful spoof websites with children turning orange because they were eating carrots, flying sharks and aliens who are invading the earth. Great work everyone. You are little stars shining brightly and we are so proud of you all. We know that you will continue to shine next term too because you are really buzzing with enthusiasm. Keep up the good work everyone.

Another super week of learning in Year 3. Well done everyone. You all continue to amaze us with your cheerfulness and enthusiasm. You have all demonstrated so many of the different learning characters this week and we are so proud of you all. We loved sharing all of the learning that you were all proud of in our Zoom meeting on Wednesday. We hope that you all enjoyed the Zoom. We are looking forward to another next week— please note it will be on Tuesday next week.

This week we have finished reading our class novel, the Iron Man. This has generated lots of wonderfully creative ideas and some marvellous writing. You have really blown me away with your creativity. Kiki Chameleon learning points for everyone. Well done. In maths we have been doing some great multiplication. We have sent out login details for TTRockstars via email and Miss Edmondson has created a little video to watch so that you can get started. This is a super program and is used in other classes in the school too. We know that you will really enjoy using it. In RE we have been looking at Reconciliation and thinking about how God calls us to change. These lessons will help us with our preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, which the children will hopefully be able to make later on in the year. In Science we have been sorting living things into groups using different criteria. In Geography the children have been very busy creating super leaflets about the local area of St. Annes. Thank you for all of your hard work children. You are little super stars.

What a super week we have had this week. We are so impressed with all of the work that the children have been doing both in class and at home. Well done everyone.

It was so lovely to see the children on the Zoom meeting on Wednesday and to share what they have been enjoying doing.  We hope that you all enjoyed it at home as much as we did in school. We look forward to organising another for next week—same time and same place. I will send out the Zoom details in an email to you all. We are looking forward to seeing you all again.

We hope that you have enjoyed the learning this week and that you are managing OK. Thank you for all of your lovely emails and super photos. It is lovely to see all of the children’s hard work on Purple Mash and to see how they are continually trying to improve. You are such enthusiastic Bobby Bees, Lizzie Ladybirds who want to improve and Sadie Spiders who just keep on trying, Cooper Crabs who concentrate, Curious Clara Clownfish who are great at asking and answering questions, brave have a go Tommy Turtles  and Creative Kiki Chameleons. On top of all that you must also be Co-operative Roger Robins because you are getting your work done. Well done everyone. Keep up the good work. Don’t forget to say a great big “thank you” to your lovely parents who are helping you everyday to do all of your fantastic work. The children both at home and in school have continued to work really hard and to make us so proud with their creativity and focus. We are loving looking at all of the wonderful learning that is taking place at home and how children are really engaging with the videos, lessons and Purple Mash. Well done everyone. This week, we just could not decide between quite a few learners at home and so we have decided to be incredibly cheeky and give not 1, not 2 but 3 home learning certificates this week as well as a certificate for a school learner. Well... we just could not decide who to choose and we did not want to wait until next week. So here goes: Our home learning certificates go to Millie, Angel and Max this week and our school certificate goes to Leo.  Millie receives a concentrating Cooper Crab because she is so focused on her work and gets everything done. You are also so enthusiastic Millie. Well done, we are so impressed with all of your lovely work. Angel gets an Enthusiastic Bobby Bee certificate because he is just bubbling with enthusiasm at the moment. We are loving how you are engaging with everything and even trying hard to encourage others as well with your enthusiasm. Well done Angel—keep up this wonderful attitude. Max you are getting a Creative Kiki Chameleon certificate for your amazing animation. Wow!! We were all so impressed with this in school. We hope everyone at home enjoys it too. Make sure that you have a look at all of the animations that Miss Edmondson has posted. Max you have also been such a Bobby Bee too and your work is always super. Amazing handwriting too—well done. In school our certificate goes to Leo. Leo gets an Enthusiastic Bobby Bee certificate because he is so enthusiastic about doing all of his work. Amazing animations.

Wow children, you have blown me away with your animations. You really stepped up to the challenge set by the children who are now in Year 4. I know lots of you have really enjoyed this. Can you guess who made which one?

It has taken us a little longer to complete this in school as there a few of us, so if you need more time to complete it do not worry. Send them to my email as and when you can. I can always pop them on next week’s blog.

What is a bookshelf other than a treasure chest for curious minds... Year 3 Friday 22nd January 2021

We are so proud of all of the work that is going on in class and at home. We recognise that it is not easy and that the children are missing each other, but like true Sadie Spiders the children keep on trying and trying and trying and they are doing some great work. Well done children and thank you parents for all the support that you are giving whilst trying to do everything else as well.

Sadly, we have had to close our class bubble, as we have had a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the children who are coming into school. Hopefully everyone will be okay and we are sure that you will join us all in hoping that everyone is safe and keeping everyone in our prayers.

Our novel the Iron Man is really beginning to get very exciting and the children have had some very creative ideas about what might happen.  I am loving reading what they have written. We continue to be really impressed with the children’s ability to add and subtract involving exchanges. We are coming to the end of this topic and next week we will be starting our topic of multiplication and division. Geography is proving to be very exciting, looking at maps and learning all about the local area. In RE the children have continued to think about the Sacrament of  Reconciliation. 

Purple Mash is working well and the children are really engaging. Well done children. (Just one little blip—we need to add a 2Do for you to put photos on —we have realised that we have missed some of the work that children have sent to us because it is going into the children’s files and not into our alerts. Whoops—sorry. Our fault not yours. 2dos will be set when needed to return your work to us, so keep your eyes peeled for 2dos. If your child is at school on that date they will have completed it in class.

Let’s Celebrate:

This week the children both at home and in school have continued to work really hard and to make us so proud with their creativity and focus. We are so proud of all the super learning that is taking place at home and how children are really engaging with the videos, lessons and Purple Mash. Well done everyone. Keep up the good work children and thank you for everything that you have sent to us. Well done parents for all of your support and hard work too.

This week, we are delighted to present Ruby-Lilly, Evan and Owen with their certificates.

Ruby-Lilly receives a Lizzie Ladybird certificate for her continued effort to improve and get better in all of her lessons.  Ruby-Lilly you are a pleasure to teach and you are always so enthusiastic too. Keep up the good work.

Evan and Owen, you both receive Co-operative Roger Robins/Creative Kiki Chameleon certificates. You have both continued to engage fully in the work and have had brilliant ideas about what you think might happen in the Iron Man story. You have completed some super work. Great punctuation too, well done!

Well done also to Leo who is the first to have reached 100% of his reading target this term. Well done Leo. That’s wonderful. Make sure that you put your bird up on the rainbow when we get back into class. Well done everyone. You have really tried to get on with your reading this week and to take quizzes. We have a few people now in the 60% zone and others in the 40% zone. Remember to take a quiz if you have not done this yet please.

Another fun lesson of using our cameras to produce some lovely photos, collages and edited work. Super children!

No matter whether they are at home or school the children are trying hard to be positive and do their best to demonstrate the different learning characters. We have so many Cooper Crabs, Kiki Chameleons, Bobby Bees, Sadie Spiders, Roger Robins, Curious Clara Clownfish, Tommy Turtles and Lizzie Ladybirds it has been very difficult to choose who will receive our certificates this week.

We hope that you are all keeping well and staying safe during these very strange times. “Thank you” for all of the lovely photos showing the children engaging in their work at home and also for all of the lovely emails from you too. We really do appreciate these. We hope that you will enjoy looking at the photos of the children working both at home and at school this week. Well done children, thank you parents..

There has been some lovely writing this week, all relating to our super class novel - The Iron Man. Well done children you have been very creative and full of enthusiasm. We are really impressed with the maths work that has gone on both at home and in school this week. The children have all worked so hard to move towards mastery of addition and subtraction involving exchanges this week and they are all doing so well. We hope that you enjoyed this week’s science lesson. It certainly was very exciting when we did it in school. The children now definitely understand what digestion and the digestive system is all about. (Yes it was rather messy - I said it would be, but it really helped with understanding.) In computing the children have worked hard to manipulate their photos and present them in a collage. Make sure you have a look on the blog that Miss Edmondson has added to the webpage. In RE we have started looking at Reconciliation. This will also help us in our preparation for receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation, which hopefully we will be able to celebrate once we are back to normal. Just like it said at the top of the blog - There are so many reasons to be happy.

Year 3 Photography skills

Children, you have impressed me again with your photography skills. Well done. I’m sure there will be more to add to this as other children send them in.

“It’s amazing what we can accomplish when we’re in it together.”

When we all arrived back at school on Monday morning, we were really impressed with how calm the children came back to the classroom and how eager and excited they were to get back to their learning.

Well, unfortunately for all of us that didn’t last long and we were all forced into working in different places following the government’s announcement on Monday evening. That hasn’t stopped the children from working though—and even creating their own work stations and work timetables. (Well done girls—you know who you are!!!) As the Year 3 team, we want to take this opportunity to say a big “Thank you” for all of the lovely photos showing the children engaging in their work at home and also for all of the lovely emails from you too. We really do appreciate these. We hope that you enjoy looking at the photos of the children working and also the gallery of photos that the children took as part of their computing lesson this week—photography. We definitely have some budding photographers in our midst. Well done everyone.

This week, we have started our new class novel (not the one we were intending to do—but we needed to make sure that we could let the children see the text so we changed it after the announcement. Hopefully we will be able to do our other book soon.) Already I can see that there has been a lot of engagement in this—we have some lovely drawings of the Iron Man and some super ideas about what might happen and where he might have come from. In maths this week the children have been adding and subtracting and again lots of super engagement. We have loved seeing all of the different types of counters that have been used—very Creative Kiki Chameleons. Well done everyone. Our geography topic, the local area,  has proved to be very exciting too, as has the computing topic of photography.  Next week we hope to bring you even more lessons to engage in, so make sure that you are ready to get learning and show how enthusiastic and independent that you can be.

This week has been very different and very strange in many ways and it makes us truly proud to see that the children have taken these changes in their stride and have continued to work no matter where they have been learning. Normally, we would give 2 certificates out for hard work and attitude and this week we have decided to divide these between home and school, as we know that the children at home are working just as hard as the children at school. We are so proud of all the lovely comments about independent learning at home and how children are engaging really well with the videos. Keep this up children as it means that your parents can get on with their work too.

We are delighted to announce that Stanley and Iris receive this weeks certificates. Stanley and Iris both get an enthusiastic Bobby Bee certificate for being such enthusiastic learners this week. Stanley, you have definitely shown that you are up for a challenge and that you have been excited by the work that has been set. Iris you have also been such a keen learner this week and you have been ready to share all of your lovely ideas. Well done children. Keep up the good work.

Well done children! We have reached the end of the term and what a term it has been!

We would like to say a big “thank you” to you all for all of your smiling faces and support throughout the term. The children have been amazing and they have really settled well into the different routines and life in the juniors. They have worked their socks off throughout the term and really shown how much they have grown. We are really looking forward to watching them grow their brains even more when we come back in January.

We have continued to be busy with our learning throughout this week as well as having lots of fun and enjoying our Danceathon on Tuesday and our Christmas party yesterday. The children were so excited when they saw the little video that we made when Father Christmas arrived at school to deliver some gifts. Have a look at our photos to see some of the things that we have been doing. Thank you for all of your kind donations towards our Danceathon, we will be making our donation to Street Life when we return to school in January.

“Kindness is Free, Sprinkle that Stuff Everywhere.”

What a lovely week we have had in Year 3. It has absolutely flown by but has been filled with the buzz of learning and the excitement of Christmas preparations and our Christmas Jumper Jog too.

We would like to say a big thank you to you all for your donations for our Christmas Jumper Jog  -  all monies will be sent to Street Life, a local charity doing such an amazing job supporting homeless people in the local area. The children all looked lovely in their Christmas jumpers and we had so much fun running around the playground at every opportunity we could get. (We were really lucky with the weather too.) We also made some beautiful cards to send to Street Life to give out over Christmas. Well done children.(See the attached photos below.)

· On Tuesday 15th December we will be doing our annual Danceathon. This year it will be slightly different as we will not be able to do our early morning playground dancing but we will be able to do our dances throughout the day as we usually do. Also this year we will not be raising money for school based projects but all money that we raise as a class will go to our class charities, so the money we raise as a class will go to Street Life. We are asking for £1 donation (single coins again please) rather than the usual sponsored event. Children are asked to wear their PE kits and trainers on this day.

· Our Party Day this year is on Thursday 17th December. Children can wear their party clothes on this day and can bring a treat (chocolate bar or a packet of crisps) and a drink (not fizzy please) for their snack on this day. This year our parties will be based in the classroom but we will be having lots of fun and playing party games. (Please remember that children will be playing out at playtime and will need their coats and sensible shoes.) We will also be enjoying our school Christmas dinner cooked by our lovely Jacqui on this day (or packed lunch if your child has packet lunches—maybe you could try to make this a bit Christmassy!! Thanks)

· Please can I remind you about the Home School Agreement form. If you have not yet completed this form please complete and submit it asap. We are still awaiting responses from a number of families. Many thanks.

· Please make sure that you look at the home learning page for this week’s home learning. This should be completed by next Thursday.  This week’s learning is COMPUTER BASED. Many thanks.

“The World is Brighter with the Happiness of Children,” Mehmet Murat Ildan

Another happy week in Year 3, there has been lots of excitement with the start of Advent but there has also been lots of lovely learning and co-operating with others.

This week we are delighted to welcome a new member to our class. We hope that you and your family will be very happy as part of our class and school family.

This week in RE we have been looking at the Incarnation and also the birth of Jesus and the Shepherds’ Visit.  We have been reminding ourselves to carry out our Advent Promises and we have also been doing a daily act of kindness through out Advent calendar. We have also been practising our verses for our Christmas poem. In English this week we have written diaries as one of the cottars from the story of the Green Children. We have continued to practise writing what different people have said using inverted commas making sure that they are in the correct places. In maths this week, we have continued with our adding and subtracting and we have been bridging different hundreds. We have continued counting in tens and bridging those hundreds and we have been using bar models. In Science the children have continued with our topic of electricity and have been making and drawing circuits using bulb, motors and buzzers.

This week our certificates go to Matilda and Alexander. Matilda you are always so focused and ready to concentrate on your work. You are such a Cooper Crab. You are also always happy to help others and you are a lovely work partner. Well done and keep up the good work. Alexander you have been so enthusiastic and eager to do your work this week. You have been buzzing with enthusiasm and have been super in maths and also when practising our Christmas Shepherd poem. Well done Alexander, I am loving your enthusiasm and want to see this continue.

We would be delighted if the children could bring a donation of  £1 (as a single coin please so that they can be weighed rather than counted) on this day, which we will donate to Street Life.
