Friday May 22nd Our Lady Star of the school - all learning together!!!!

Welcome to our first HEALTH and HAPPINESS lessons. Today is the final day of half term and all the teachers want to say a massive well done to all their pupils for working soooo hard. They would also like to say a sincere thank you to all the parents who have supported and helped with all the home learning!

Today and during the week beginning June the 1st we have set you lessons linked to Health and Happiness. We hope you will be able to complete these tasks as families - siblings working together- with mums and dads helping out too.

Today we are going to learn about the NHS (National Health Service) and the wonderful people who work there!

NHS- TASK 1 WHAT JOBS CAN YOU SEE?

Look carefully at this picture- click on it to make it nice and big. Working with your family name as many different jobs that take place in this lovely town.

What jobs do your parents do? Draw a picture of your parent doing their job. Or take a picture of your parent/s in their work clothes ready for work. Send your pictures to Mrs Hotchkiss - we will pop them on the school website to celebrate all the jobs we do to help one another!

TASK 2 INVESTIGATING THE JOBS IN THE NHS THROUGH STORIES

Sophie’s story

Here is a story about a little girl called Sophie. Read the story together. If you are the oldest sibling you could read it to your family or you could let your younger sibling/s read alternative pages! There are some tricky words in bold to read- these are the names of all the special jobs in the NHS. Sophie has to go to hospital, think carefully about all the different people she meets. Click on the picture to open up Sophie’s story.

TASK 3 - WATCHING LITTLE FILMS

Here are three short films about different aspects of the NHS. Listen to the people who work there and who help all of us to stay happy and healthy! Click on the image to open the film.

Are you feeling inspired? Would you like to work for the NHS? Here are two tasks for you to complete. Again older siblings can take the lead here. Firstly the “Who am I?” sheet, time to reflect on your qualities- which job would suit you? Secondly the “hire me” worksheet. Here you will think about your key strengths and which job you would like- think back to the people who helped Sophie and Ajay - who would you like to be? Click on the picture to open the worksheet.

TASK 4 - SAYING THANK YOU COMPETITION

Over the past few weeks we have been standing together with our neighbours each Thursday to clap our NHS workers. Now you know more about these special people. In response to their amazing work the NHS have set a competition for schools so that we can creatively say thank you again. The competition was set for May 1st- but the NHS has asked schools to teach these lessons online and to send entries for Friday June 19th. Here is a film from the NHS to explain (prizes will be changed). All entries must be sent to Mrs Hotchkiss who will send them via an electronic online entry form. It says individual or pairs- but you may do this it as a family team!
